Quote from AUDD broad;

GPs are so hell bent on not prescribing 'addictive' drugs that as long as its not addictive or fun, they don't mind prescribing it.
especially in the case of insomnia which is a tricky thing to treat without going certain routes.

Can I ask a simple, quick, question to one of your answers?

Is Sequel actually used, off-label, as a mild sedative? Aka, promethazine?

=D

Cheers knowledgeable people!

do you mean seroquel? "sequel" a narrative work whose story goes after another. i don't think there is any pharmaceutical under that name--and google agrees.

and promethazine is not seroquel. the first is an antihistamine, the latter is an antipsychotic. both are sometimes used as sedatives.

1. Yep, my bad, damn auto correct.

2. I realise the parmacology of these are different.

I should have given it some context! In the opie potentiation (AUDD) thread there's about half and half for each options. So now my question still stands....

Is Seroquelactually as used as a off-label, mild sedative? So does, promethazine?
(albeit different mechanisms)

If by 'mild sedative' you're referring to treatment of insomnia, I know I've been prescribed Seroquel for insomnia as well as other people I know.

Promethazine (you're referring to Phenergan, right?) I don't know about being used for sedative purposes though it's used here often for helping sleep, though only in conjunction with nausea.

Yeah, I try to stay away from brand-names - too ambiguous.

I understand that both Seroquel and Promethazine have off-label uses as mild sedatives. Is this correct?

And with running the risk of abstracting the two's MOA to a too higer level - they're both anti-psychotics with a basic MOA of reducing neural activity. This holds true for both I would assume..

(the actual -kinetics and -dynamics I can find out myself. Just wanted to confirm this is true. :)

seroquel is a brand name. it is an antipsychotic. it is sometimes used as a sedative.

promethazine is a antihistamine. it is sometimes used as a sedative.

i'm going to close this.
