Project 2025: Trump's plan for authoritarian takeover

While I will agree he is more narcisistic and self absorbed than your average human being, by a lot, I have to disagree with the second half. Is it in his self interest and ego stroking to come back and run again after four years of opposition by the left and the media (one in the same), knowing they'll bring even more heat in a 2024 election run - now including multiple indictments across several states? Is any of this shit doing anything for him?

Well, yeah. Quite a bit actually. Trump enjoys campaigning more than governing, so there's that. An excuse to have rallies and give speeches. Keeps the attention on him and a vehicle to counter the narrative being built by all the mounting legal trouble.

Then you have the most obvious benefit... the fact that him running for president again allows him to further the belief that the last election was stolen from him. (I don't think he actually thinks it was, but he has to keep up the charade). If he honestly believed that, he wouldn't be trying again. Why would "they" let him win this time? If anything "they" have more reason to stop him this time.

I honestly think his best case outcome in his mind is to "win" the flimsy legal battles so that he claim vindication and then narrowly lose in November so he doesn't have to do 4 more years of boring shit with no hope of a third term. Then he can finish out his life as martyr and hero amongst his supporters without having to face any criticism for his performance should he win. (With the Middle East, China, Russia, all looming)

he could have said 'F this crap' and gone back into business
He can't just go back to business. Nobody would have bailed him out with the ridiculous $175 million bond if he was not running for president again.

His only chance of avoiding serious ramifications of all 91 of these charges is by winning the presidency again. That's his whole legal strategy, delay. Nobody gets through 91 charges unscathed, especially when half the country / jurors hate you.

I'll step back and acknowledge, there is a wide spectrum of ideas of what is 'best for the nation'. Both parties have their ideals, and the public is a huge gray sea between those polar ideals, but both sides equally believe THEIR ideals are the right ones.
I think what is "best for the nation" is simply to tax billionaires at the same tax rate normal people pay.

I don't know why that's such a controversial statement. It's not a criticism of capitalism. I pay like 25% and billionaires pay 1%? How is that fair?

Every facet of our society has been billionaires abusing the system to extract every last cent from the low/middle class. This is the biggest problem for our country. It's been happening since 1980, but in the last several years it has become way out of hand.

Culture wars are such small issues in comparison.

Well, yeah. Quite a bit actually.

On the campaigning - you realize Democrat attorneys have been draining his campaign funds with legal expenses? And for getting out to rallies, I know he likes Chick Fil A, but the NY court wouldn't even let him travel to attend his son's graduation. Do you see that as fair, or overly oppressive in terms of both personal (family graduation) and professional (can't campaign like a normal candidate financially or on the road)?

further the belief that the last election was stolen from him. (I don't think he actually thinks it was,

I honestly believe he 100% believes it, and like the interal resistance under his administration it is something he didn't see coming, wasn't prepared for, and if I am honest I doubt he has any real plan to address it this time. Debates over fraud or cheating in 2020 belong elsewhere, but for this point I am fully convinced that he absolutely believes it. And, of course, he does know it sells with the public, just like the portion of America that views these hearings as selective prosecution, uneven application of the law, and an attempt by the Biden administration to block his political opponent. This resonates not just with the team MAGA but is gaining support from undecideds, and even some of the democrat strongholds (blacks, hispanics). While it is clear the Dem machine sought to invalidate his candidacy, these trials have actually helped him. On that, we agree.

Well, I don't think he should get any special treatment. If an average person in a similar trial would've been denied those things, I think he should be too. But if they're just doing it to for no reason when it would be easy to accommodate it, I would be against that yeah, especially for a family function.

Well I'm sure he thinks it was "stolen" because the media conspired against him and done free campaigning for Biden. And because of the legal wild goose chases and all that. But I'm not convinced he believes in the widespread election fraud bit. He's a smart guy... i actually think he's pretty rational and not prone to conspiracy theories. But when it comes to riling his base up he knows he can use that to throw fuel on the fire. For the Trump revenge tour 2024.

The fact is that the National Sheriff's Association is quite aware of what happened last time and has organized into a cabal that will prevent the same type of fraud from happening in the same way.

there was no fraud. but if the two parties are truly a...

The uniparty

then why does it matter who wins? same thing right?

"Sweden saw 45 deadly shootings in 2018, compared with 17 in 2011."

compared to the US:

"As of February 15, 2024, the Gun Violence Archive reported that at least 4,994 people had died from gun violence that year, which is about 108 deaths per day."

Twice as many people die from guns every day in the US than the worst year total on record in Sweden.

the worst people tend to live the longest
proof there is no god lol
Actually in my dialect we have a saying " La càrna triste, non la vole u Diavol e manghe Ccriste!!" ( The "sad meat", bad people, are not wanted by the Devil and not even by Christ) So I ld say it s a proof that both the Devil and God exist and despite their differences they agree on not wanting assholes around!

So? What exactly does this have to do with Sweden's migrant caused violence?

Argentina...how's that working out for him so far? Last I heard he had the first federal budget surplus in 16y, and is continuing on that trajectory. Cut a TON of bloat and corruption out of the system. Let's see if the citizens find an improved free market life, or if they truly needed all those gov't agencies to help them. My money is on the former.

Milei? It's too soon to tell how much damage he's causing but so far he has already alienated China and torpedoed the chance of joining BRICS, which was previously planned.

(Bloomberg) -- Argentina’s lower house approved President Javier Milei’s omnibus and fiscal bills, first in whole and later in parts, in a major win for the libertarian leader whose reforms now face a stiffer fight in the senate.

House representatives agreed Tuesday that Milei should have expanded executive powers on administrative, financial, economic and energy matters, as well as the ability to dissolve dozens of special-purpose federal government funds. They also allowed the privatization of nearly a dozen firms, including airline Aerolineas Argentinas, public utilities, train and postal service companies, and the expansion of the income tax base.

...

Milei also won approval for a labor reform that he considers essential to encourage companies to hire. The proposal would extend the trial period before a worker is hired with a full-time contract and eliminate penalties for companies trying to register informal employees, who make up about half of the work force.

It really sounds like he's just selling out his country, tbh

But what!??! I know nothing about project 2025.... is this a drug forum? *Clutches pearls* You Shall Obeyzen the lawzzen. (what religion is trump other than 31 flavors of jesus, time to fall in line and work on my highstep?) FUUUCCKKKKK

this is bad

oh, trump says he knows nothing about it?

ok, then that must be the truth and we can all just stop worrying.

alasdair
Yeah, you can stop worrying now

Anyone associated with the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, which Trump and his advisers denounced after it became a political target for Democrats, would be barred from working on the team. Transition staff used “Control+F,” a keyboard shortcut, to search through Project 2025’s 900-plus-page policy blueprint for the names of potential hires

Even a brief mention of a name in an author’s note at the end of a chapter was enough to prevent that person from getting a job on the team. In several cases in recent weeks, informal discussions about working on the team came to an abrupt halt after a name was spotted in the document, according to people familiar with the matter

so they've been outed and are now distancing themselves from it for reasons of political expediency?

if true, and it could still be totally false given how much trump and his campaign lie, then great :)

but it could still be completely untrue.
