Has anyone else been following the news regarding the FDA approval of the bupe implant probuphine? I spoke to my psychiatrist who prescribes me suboxone and he mentioned it to me and that a panel had just recommended FDA approval for it. Apparently it's a matchstick sized device that releases Bupe over the course of 6 months or so. There is no naloxone in it like suboxone has the net has me pretty excited because that stuff makes me feel horrible. I for one am very excited for the approval and will definitely get the implant once it's available and covered by insurance. I really love the idea of not having to worry about taking my suboxone dose and I think not having to think about your next dose is important to recovery and getting out of the mindset of addiction. If you're unsure what I'm talking about you can google Probuphine and lots of information including very recent news article should come up regarding it. Anyone else been following this or have any interest in it? I'd like to spark the discussion of sorts about it, really anything concerning the implant.

Have a great day.

Another pharmaceutical cash cow. I like the idea more than the naltrexone implants though. I wonder if it will be one dose fits all or if you can adjust how much is released before implanted? We all know most prescribed bupe doses are insanely high.

I guess I should have mentioned that in my original post. Its only 4 people on relatively low doses, under 8 milligrams and they have to be on a steady dose... obviously somebody that changes their dosage amount every couple of months wouldn't be a good candidate. And yeah I mean I agree any pharmaceutical.. especially for the treatment of addiction is just made for money ( and it also really depends on the doc that's prescribing it, some of them are crooks) but that's not to say they can't help people that have the funds to pay for it or the insurance to cover it.

This could cut into the suboxone drs cash cow.

Doubt it. The implant is going to be expensive and most people will still prefer the monthly prescriptions. But I could be wrong. I honestly wish they would come up with a methadone implant. I would be all over that. No more daily trips to the fucking clinic.

Some addiction doctors prescribe methadone in pill form....usually you have to be in pain management as well, or have tried subutex and it doesn't work for you. Going to a private doctor is going to be a little more expensive than going to a clinic due to having to pay everything out at once for your meds and your visit. I was fortunate that I had a pharmacist that let me buy my pills a week at a time....It was like have a car and go to work or take suboxone? What would your choice be?

Crimson: Yeah suboxone had me throwing up in the morning after my morning dose. Its weird that some people can tolerate that stuff but others can't. I ended up switching to subutex and that lead to an even worse habit for me.

I can say this maybe much more helpful than naltrexone implants. I mean the user of this implant is just going to have to watch out for getting an addiction to other substances due to the fact bupe doesn't scratch the itch so to say. I would like to read more about clinical trials. I was actually in a trial for a harder to abuse suboxone that you placed on the inside of your cheek and it was much harder than regular suboxone. It was nice, I got meds for free for two months, and I got paid a very small amount of cash...but I believe they never released this formulation because I have never heard of it being prescribed.

It exists. I can't remember what it is called but it is a buccal route version of suboxoneach basically. Not very popular though it seems.

Also - not all doctors that prescribe sub are evil, lol. I go through a psych and I only have to come in every six months unless I want to see him earlier. You just need to search (and get lucky I guess)

Anyways- I know probuphine is on a "fast track" to be approved by the fda. Who knows how long that will actually be. The clinical trial I read showed it being more successful than suboxonr when they compared the two.
