Ok, when i first awoke with a blood nose, i thought nothing of it. After another week of bad sleep I took 100mg of 5-htp and 3mg Melatonin before sleep again. Once more i awoke with a blood nose and feeling groggy. It could had been a coincidence. A month later, havent done the combo again. I did it last night the third time to help my sleep. For the third time... i awoke with a blood nose and today i feel VERY spacey and out of it. - me is worried.

hmmm that sounds very wierd, like I said in another post, all this hype around 5-htp I want to know more about what it actually does long term...

Sadly I don't have the answer to your question, but I hope someone at least has some suggestions or ideas?

Melatonin does not cause serotonin syndrome.

Were you snorting things before you saw the need to use the melatonin? That would provide a much better explanation :P

i've used 5-htp on a long term basis. after a while you stop feeling as great on it, because its already done its job in helpng your serotonin out. the first time i used it was on an e-comedown and felt totally smacked out. it was great. and successive comedowns after that were not as harsh.

i dont see the value in taking it every day though. its not one of those medications that you need to take everyday. unless you're taking pills everyday or something equally ridiculous.

i've never had nose-bleeds or anything off it. no side effets. nothing at all.

^ How? That is unsubstantiated to the best of my knowledge. Wouldn't something that assists your body in producing serotonin increase the chance of serotonin syndrome?

oh and to add, 5-htp PREVENTS serotonin syndrome. it doesn't cause it.

Not to be rude,b ut you're 100% wrong.

People have reported mild cases of serotonin syndrome from the combination of 5-HTP and SSRIs.

5-HTP is a serotonergic drug and can easily cause serotonin syndrome in combination with other serotonergic drugs with a different method of action.

No, im not snorting anything, and i only used the combo days after using mdma. I actualy read on this site, that the combination can cause mild symptoms of the syndrome, but it had its own name.
- The melatonin also gives me vivid haunting nightmares, lucid like. I had to stop taking them.

5-htp also causes lucid dreams, so theoretically taking them together should cause more dreams! Interestingly though, I've also noticed what you report - if I take both 5-htp (100mg) and melatonin (3mg) I don't remember my dreams. Perhaps it's the higher dose creating a different level of sleep? As 5-htp is turned into serotonin, which is then converted into melatonin, I can't think of any other explanation.

I've never found the dreams from melatonin/5-htp to be unpleasant but they can be VERY strange 8o

Although I don't have any knowledge of what's causing your sleep interruption, I think it might be worth seeing a doctor. If you only have interrupted sleep a few times a month, a benzodiazepine or Stilnox might be a better alternative. Just don't start taking them nightly! :|
