MEXICO CITY — Prisoners in a northern Mexico jail were allowed out at night to carry out murder-for-hire jobs using jail guards’ weapons and vehicles, officials said Sunday, revealing a level of corruption that is stunning even in a country where prison breakouts are common as guards look the other way.

The prisoners carried out three massacres this year in the city of Torreón in which 35 people were killed, Ricardo Nájera, the spokesman for the attorney general’s office, said at a news conference. Among them, the authorities said, was last week’s attack on birthday revelers at a party hall. The gang shot randomly into the crowd, they said, killing 17 people.

Ballistics studies confirmed that four guns used in the shooting were the same as those assigned to jail guards, Mr. Nájera said.

My son has been working in West Central Mexico and during a trip south to the Guatemala border he stopped over in Mexico City . He described it as a gruesomely dirty and violent city and was so glad to be shut of it .
He won't go near the border towns as they are obviously killing fields .

If the politicians just said, "okay we were wrong about the war on drugs, no lets fix this" everything would be so much better.

But instead they just wont admit any fault and wont to make it harder punishments even when they know it's not working.

It's the extreme fear of being wrong that screws everything up.

Mexico City has some disgusting areas, but overall I think it's a great city. It's more fun than many US cities. People aren't dildos over there. One of the drawbacks, I guess, is that you're more likely to get killed in the D.F. than anywhere in the US. Some people are freaked out by that.
