Prescription pills - advice please?

And have you considered therapy? Not sure if it's an option for you, but it's definitely preferable to psychiatric drugs imo.

Hey there.

I know you ruled out mirtazapine due to the potential weight gain.
But im still gonna five you my two cents.

Im currently prescribed mirtazapine due to its potential to cause drowsiness(can't be given benzos as i have trouble sleeping 100% of the time)
I just wanted to tell you that I havent experienced any weight gain what soever.

Occasionally(1 in 5 nights) I may feel hungry after taking it(i take it around 11:30, when i feel hungry its around 12:30-1), but it doesn't take much for the hunger to go away, like...an apple will do.

Also, I've had a number of issues with anxiety and depression over the years and SSRIs have never helped, though surprisingly......i think mirtazapine helps......it doesn't fix everything.....but it does reduce it.

Just wanted to let you know that weight gain doesn't always happen.

Just my two cents man, Good Luck!

Well if benzos are a no go, try possibly pregablin, it's good for anxiety, or gabapentin perhaps, though I'd go with edible cannabis. I use Valium, Librium isn't very habit forming either.

Thanks guys. I'm looking for legal medication here, i'm not looking to abuse benzos or cannabis.

Anyway. I had a doctors appointment and I just got more mirtazipine (not taken it yet and probably wont) as she had no idea what to prescribe me when I said I wanted something that helps with anxiety that doesn't come with weight gain or sexual sides.

Still can't find anything :/

To elaborate guys...been doing more research:

SSRI's - No thank you, all have sexual sides and Mirtazipine (Remeron) has weight gain.

Benzos are a no go as they are temporary as you build a tolerance and can get very addictive so no thanks.

Blood pressure meds such as Propanalol / Clonodine = Sexual side effects (I'm actually currently taking Clonodine but it gives me dreadful constipation, not even sure if it's helping with flushing but I've ordered psyllium husk supplements to try and counter this - that said, I'll probably have to give us due to inevitable sexual sides)

Anti-Histimines = These REALLY helped me but they also block the receptors (H1/H2) which control sexual desire and the ability to get an erection

So, seriously, what options does this leave me with? My diet is already super clean (Avoid gluten and try to limit sugars)

To put things as simply as possible, I want a drug that calms my nervous system down without causing me problems in the bedroom / weight gain. There HAS to be one right?

OP every drug is going to have side effects..and if dry mouth and constipation occuring in a small percentage of people that take a drug is enough to cause you to rule it out then you are never going to find anything to take...those are really minor annoyances of side effects...

Listen to what missmeyet is saying. You're totally ruling out medications that really could improve your life just because there are some minor negative side-effects associated with them. I take lexapro and haven't experienced any side effects. Just bc there are side effects listed doesn't mean everyone will experience them, just that a small portion of ppl in the study were affected that way. Anyways, you have practically ruled out most pharms available so there's not much we can do to help you

That's the thing though, we live in the 21st century, am I really asking for too much to ask for an anti-anxiety med which doesn't potentially have sexual / weight gain side effects?

Doesn't seem like I'm asking the world tbh! I understand what you say about everyone not getting sides but I'm the person who gets the worst sides from everything. I mean even anti-histamines killed my libido.

Ill re-iterate it once more because I dont know if the OP saw it, but pregabalin? No sexual side effects and weight gain is unlikely.

The thing is OP, all drugs (even meds) are a double edged sword.
For every beneficial effect you get, there will be one or more (hopefully minior) side effects to contend with.

Medicine isnt the extact science it first seems and alot of trial and error are involved in finding the right treatments.
In alot of med disiplines this T&E has been done by generations of patients before us and we get the benefits with standard treatments that are effective and have less incidence of troubling side effects.

In psychiatry though, these advancememnts have only taken place relatively recently and our generation are breaking ground in finding out what works for what and what side effects to expect.

Especially true with most psych meds is that the side effects some experience, others simply wont and a troubling side effect now, could well disapate as your body grows used to a drug.

Side effects are as much a matter of tolerance as are beneficial effects because in essence, they are ALL side effects.

How about picking a few of the suitable meds and giving them 4-6 week trials each to see which work best for you, surely you can handle 4-6 weeks of slight weightgain or sex dysfunc, too see if the side effects go away or lessen and.if your anxiety is lessened.

If your looking for a magic pill that will hill your anxiety without any tolerance, side effect issues thenim sorry mate...it doesnt exist.

Hey dude, according to wikipedia...

Very common (>10% of patients): dizziness, drowsiness.
Common (1–10% of patients): blurred vision, diplopia, increased appetite and subsequent weight gain, euphoria, confusion, vivid dreams, changes in libido (increase or decrease), irritability, ataxia, attention changes, abnormal coordination, memory impairment, tremors, dysarthria, parasthesia, vertigo, dry mouth and constipation, vomiting and flatulence, erectile dysfunction, fatigue, peripheral oedema, drunkenness, abnormal walking, asthenia, nasopharyngitis, increased creatine kinase level.
Infrequent (0.1–1% of patients): depression, lethargy, agitation, anorgasmia, hallucinations, myoclonus, hypoaesthesia, hyperaesthesia, tachycardia, excessive salivation, hypoglycaemia, sweating, flushing, rash, muscle cramp, myalgia, arthralgia, urinary incontinence, dysuria, thrombocytopenia, kidney calculus
Rare (<0.1% of patients): neutropenia, first degree heart block, hypotension, hypertension, pancreatitis, dysphagia, oliguria, rhabdomyolysis, suicidal thoughts or behavior.[16]

I think you're right, I definitely need to give a few things a shot as i can't live like this much longer.

Another question, are there any drugs out there which increase your libido? Maybe I could throw these into the mix
