I'm confused, I've heard recently that a lot of people do something called.. "doctor shopping." This is a term that means for one to go to various doctors to get pills, usually of the opiate family.

The reason this seems odd to me is that I thought that they had such an intense diagnostic technique at these places of business, that someone would NEVER be able to pull one on them and claim that they have something that they don't.

So what I'm wondering is.. Do people actually get away with faking illnesses/injuries to recieve pain pills illegally? And if so what kind of illnesses do they claim to have? I'm wondering purely out of curiosity because I work in the medical feild as an assistant (lightly of course) and all of what I heard.. this is just not possible..

You've just heard about doctor shopping? how long have you been in the medical field? and i don't think anyone can/will answer what kind of illnesses they claim to have.

Yup they sure do. Some doctors just don't care while others will not prescribe codeine on your death bed. I had a friend who was an expert at this. He claimed to have a bad toothache and received literally hundreds and hundreds of Dilaudids from various doctors. I could never have the patience for this.

Holy shit?!? for a bad toothache!? Wow, now this seems really possible, no wonder people get pills. I guess it just depeneds on the doctor then? The only thing I have seen is a patient who came in and said they had a migraine, they turned out being a junkie. They stormed out of the place screaming "I just need one more fucking hit!!!!" It was reallly sad, but me being a junkie, I totally understood. (so I hooked them up with some h after they left.) :)

There will almost always be people who abuse the system, including those who are particularly good at it. If you get caught, however, you may face not being given adequate drugs for a real malady.

Btw, I have a random question. I recently went to a hospital because I had an abcess. It was from IVing Heroin. Since I did this, does this mean that they wont give me painkillers if say I broke my back or something?.. am I "red flagged" now? I wish I would have thought of this before going, now I'm scared that when I'm dying, they wont even give me codiene cuz I've tried heroin.

i don't imagine it being hard for someone to pretend they deal with the problems i have if they know the symptoms because you can't exactly prove or disprove my mental or physical disabilities

If your a junkie; you know what dr. shopping is...Sorry but this question is simply in essence dr shopping without blatantly asking how.

But we dont know what the dr wrote in your chart, therefor how would we know until you "need" to go.

This thread is bordering on "How to get prescriptions".
The term "doctor shopping" ......... Google it.

This isn't OD material either.
I'm going to have to close it.
