I'm looking for prepaid cell phones in Canada, which won't be tied to my name, and more importantly, aren't ridiculously expensive. I recall in the states I was able to pick up a $30 phone that had 100 minutes on it and was disposable.
Do these exist here, am I missing them somewhere?
If you use throw away cell phones (what these phones will essentially be), where do you buy them, and with what carrier? Also, I've heard of strict limits on how many phones you can buy (particularly at walmart). Will I start getting a hard time if I'm buying 2-3 phones on a weekly basis, or should I be buying them from different locations to avoid that. The walmart isn't too big nearby, so the staff are often the same when I've gone in.
Lastly, how difficult is it to activate a prepaid phone anonymously, I was told by one person to activate over the phone and just give a fake name, by another that they had to activate at the Point of Purchase, and a third that they ask for id. Does anyone know specifically which carriers I can provide a false name to, or simply not provide my name to.
