Powerful New Painkiller With No Side Effects or Addiction Potential

If it blocks pain from being felt and lets say I was taking it after a hand injury. Could I possibly cut my finger off without realizing it when making dinner one day? If it truly blocks all pain from being felt, how would I know until I saw my hand?

I can just imagine how popular these pills will be in the sports world. An injured qb will pop 1 or 2 of these pills & go out there & play football like hes not even hurt.

Like someone already said, even if this one doesn't work out it's only a matter of time until they design one that does. My question is how much $$$ are they going to want for something like this?

Also, here's another side note: If after say 2 or more of these medicines exist, do you think the DEA/FDA or Big Pharma will pull the current pain medications that have high abuse/diversion potential? ie. Oxycodone, Hydromorphone, etc...

I look forward to hearing others' opinion's on this subject.

holy smokes would patients bitch about this. any side effect, no matter how light, would be a huge source of complaint. a lot of people would just flat out tell their doc they dont want that shit, to give hydro like he/she has given everyone for the last two decades of his career. some doctors care about not having dissatisfied patients.

and no, the FDA wont pull opiates anytime soon, wesley. opiates do more than just relieve physical pain; they make patients comfortable. plus, they make money.

still, scary and exciting.

remember in elementary school when they taught you about the five senses?

they lied.

even if you flooded your hand with novocaine, you could still "feel" where it is in space and where the rest of your body is in relation to your hand. this is a sense: it's called propioperception

pain perception is a sense too: it's called nociception

it'd be interesting to try this out with any new class of non-local pain killers. I mean you'd still wanna be functional: be able to walk and drive and stiff-arm Troy Polamalu and all that, so it's important that any new pain killer leaves propioperception intact. Otherwise, opiates will still reign

^ we'll need a humane way of weening pain patients off, and for those who have been on painkillers for too much of their lives, it'd be totally inhumane to switch them from opiates to this drug (unless technology can also re-up-regulate their mu receptors).

something tells me doctors won't necessarily understand this, though, and label these people (who may be forced to turn to desperate measures) as simply addicts.
