Pot Plants Found in Osama Compound!

Wild growing weed plants are very common in Afghanistan, it's not news that some of them were near his compound. I strongly doubt he was growing and smoking them.

There appeared to be a good row of them, and they were RIGHT next to obviously planted food crops.... Like the pot plants were pretty damn big, like if they were just 'weeds' they woulda been ripped out being so close to the food wouldn't they?

I'm pretty sure all drugs are not allowed to be consumed or even touched by people practising islam.

Islam and Drugs

Just because a religion opposes the use doesn't mean all members perfectly adhere to such prohibitions. bin Laden however, by all accounts, was fanatical in his adherence to strict fundamentalist interpretations of Islam so I'd be surprised if he was imbibing recreationally.

The article suggestions it may have been used medicinally which is a possibility as Islam does allow this. Another possibility (although it seems rather improbable) is that they were using it as a cash crop. bin Laden himself was very wealthy but he's been cutoff from the lion's share of his financial resources and so its a possibility. The Taliban, as previously mentioned above, harshly confronted poppy production and drastically reduced the country's output prior to the US-invasion but since, evidence indicates that they've been using funds from such to fuel the insurgency.

At this point though, like that article, all we have is speculation.

^good link, clears that up.

If all that stuff about him needing dialysis is true, I bet he was getting it done at that military hospital down the road. Maybe a doc there suggested it to him as medicine and he scored a loop hole... That or he's just a hypocrite justifying his actions in some twisted way through the teachings of 'the prophet'. Muhammad was a 'do as I say not as I do' kinda guy at times.

No way it was grown for money though, those organizations have TONS of cash (and so does the paki government that was obviously taking good care of him), money wasn't an issue.

This guy wasn't someone who was short on cash. He was rolling in dough. His entire family is (was?). I'm sure he could more than easily afford the machinery and a doctor.
