Ok so apparently there has been very little research done on interactions between blood pressure meds (most being calcium channel blockers) and opiates like suboxone. Although I did find 1 that did not claim significance. But I am here to tell otherwise.
I had not changed my meds at all and was slammed with a nasty bout of persistent insomnia out of nowhere 3 weeks back. It was intense almost like you'd get from sub wds. For 3 nights in a row I lied in my bed contemplating the daunting task of going to work and by day 3 almost thought I'd be getting fired as my till was off one night $20 then the following 3rd night $50. I was a fucking zombie and in and out of this state like I said for 3 horrible weeks. I had not done anything at all and was not aware of anything or even where to start addressing it from.
So instinct told me to lower all 3 of my meds. At which point I began manipulating them all in different ways and recording my sleep record. I found that if I take 4mg of suboxone, with 5mg of norvasc, I am slammed by horrible insomnia. I didn't realize it was around the time the norvasc would just be kicking in. And couldn't put the 2 and 2 together since I was on a previous BP med (coozar) with no insomnia issues taking with sub.
I am 100% certain now however for ME, I can not take a certain amount of norvasc with suboxone no matter what. My theory is because norvasc relaxes/dilates your heart and arteries that this causes a slowing down of blood flow that leads to a build up of the suboxone in your blood. Because although I couldn't pinpoint what was happening I felt like it was side effects from the suboxone that I was getting not the norvasc. Like the suboxone insomnia when you know you took wayy too much.
Anyway I merely wanted to post this so others are aware that this potential for insomnia definitely exists. If I lower either the sub or norvasc it will go away, but it does not matter which one. This tells me it had to be an interaction between both and not one as being the main culprit. But if anyone is on sub and norvasc, and having serious and I mean SERIOUS issues sleeping, at least now there is a thread on the internet about it.
