^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
my friends album we just finished

^^I play bass, I'm "paper" in first video, "scissors" is the vocalist guitarist and "rock" is the drummer.

three new songs BL!

can you tell me what you think for these songs: Pay the Toll, Poison, and Shelby Brown???

just go to http://www.myspace.com/chelseaautomatic

pay the toll:

the riffs are cool. The filter on the vocals is absolutely awful, though. I have a feeling i'd like it better live-- nice and sloppy and shit. The mix is awfully polished for the vibe i think i'm supposed to get. This is shades of Jet.

Poison:

Cool tune. The bass imparts something satisfyingly gritty to it. The singer has a good voice, its a shame his voice is so young. This track would benefit from a deeper, gravely man singing.

Shelby Brown:

More complaints about the singer. I hope he's handsome, because he's not a good fit for the backing band. He needs to be hollering over that guitar squeal, not singing like he's on American Idol. Tell him to smoke and drink more.

Overall:
the genre isn't my cuppa tea, so take it with a grain of salt... You guys do better with the dance rock sound than you do emulating Southern Rock. Blackout is playing right now, and its better than all three, because it sounds more like an original product from a band that is actually vital. The other tracks are of a decent quality, but they sound like offerings from a band without a core set of ideas about their sound. If you're prolific enough, stick to a style, and save the twangier tracks for another album/project.

yeah - we are still trying to find our sound. we have only been together for like 6 months. the mix is awfully polished, but we needed it that way to get it on the radio stations here in Columbus. the engineer is one of the best I have ever worked with - he has done all the nominal rock bands that came out of Ohio.

sucks you don't like the singer. most people love him, but some people just don't dig him. however, he is an emo kid and the chicks usually love this guy.

sucks that you don't like the genre. I am straying away from punk rock and trying something newer.

did you really not like the drum tracks at all? or joking....

we are a live band though. good one you to pick up on that. we usually get tons of people out and our shows are just a drugged/drunk mess of a dance rock party.

Jim, you guys are pretty much nailing the big rock sound. Catchy riffs abound, and your drumming suits the style perfectly. A point of criticism on the drums is some of your fills sound a little rough at times, but this is a minor gripe. Otherwise, the kit and you are sounding great these days. It's been cool hearing you at various points. Keep up the good work! The singer sounds like he has a good voice, but I agree with Pander that it would do you guys wonders for him to try and get some grit in there. Force him to smoke 2 packs of cigarettes and drink a 1/5 of whiskey per day for a while. ;)
