Actually, I think the "holes in the brain" myth refers to that ever-popular brain scan that they showed on that MTV special on E and the one that NIDA has made a million dollars off of putting it in postcards and all over their websites. The one that has the "normal brain" on one side and the "ecstasy user's brain" on the other side. The one where the "ecstasy user" was really also a heavy coke addict as well as quite a few other drugs, et cetera. Not only that, the scan didn't show "holes in the brain," it was merely colorized to show areas of maximum/minimum activity at that point in time and as such didn't really prove anything except that more tests needed to be done. But the funny thing is, in the MTV special where they were showing the scan, someone standing by mentioned "it looks like they have big holes in their brain" and you know what happened from there.
I don't think Olney's lesions have ever been traced back to MDMA. I've only heard about K.
