Hey all. I'm on day 23 or something clean from opiates. All my withdrawal symptoms have gone away but in the last couple of days I've started getting bad joint pain in my fingers and toes. I've never had this problem in the past and find it odd that it's just now occurring. I'm only 20 years old so I don't think this is something from a "natural" cause.

Is this just some strange post w/d symptom? Has anyone else experienced this? I didn't even have pains like this during the peak of my w/d. It's more annoying than anything, and it keeps me awake when I'm trying to fall asleep.

Someone suggested drinking water and I've been doing that like a fiend the last couple of days to no avail.

I get the same symptoms while withdrawing and when im off opiates. The only opiate ive been taking for the past 3 weeks or so is codeine and i havent been physically dependant on opiates for about a month. My knees hurt so bad sometimes i can barely walk and the joints in my hands also hurt alot of the time. Pretty much it's from past injuries and the various shitty jobs i did such as bricklaying.

The joints in my hands hurt due to various injuries suffered while they occasionally came in contact with peoples heads, faces, jaws and various objects such as concreate walls. Ive punched walls so hard in fits of mania that ive torn the skin clean off my knuckles although ive never broken a bone in them. My workout consists of knuckle pushups (the regular ones kill my wrists) so they are toughened up pretty well and are basically all scar tissue from past injuries.

I find that ibuprofen helps a hell of alot. It's by far the best med ive tried for my joint pain but i try not to take it much as my stomach is messed up enough already. Id suggest trying ibuprofen though if you arent allerigic to it and if you have no stomach problems. Also exercise helps a hell of alot too. I do leg curls on a weight bench and this helps the knee pain alot. Also when my lungs clear up (ive just gotten over pneumonia) i'll go back to running on the treadmill which also helps a fuckload.

Start small with the exercise because you don't want to injure yourself further. I find exercise good for post withdrawal symptoms anyway as it kinda takes your mind off getting high. For a little bit atleast :\

You can safely take up to 3200 mg's of ibuprofen a day, a 24 hour period of time. I take four of the 200 otc variety in each dose and it gives a lot of relief of the swelling in the joints that cause the pain. Of course being a NSAID, it can cause GI distress for some people. Naproxen Sodium is another otc NSAID that can give you some relief, and at a much smaller dose.

I would experience lower back pain more than joint pain as a result of wd's.

I have experienced this - it is especially common when kicking long acting opiates like methadone. Joint pain and general body aches are very much a part of PAWS. Hnag in there it will be over soon and then if you make the right choices you'll never have to go through it again! Every hour that passes is an hour closer to reaching your goal of living an opiate-free lifestyle; yay! =D
