SO, ive been messing around with oxys/roxys/H for about three years. Using daily for the last year and stopped a little over a month ago. I was put on suboxone but i dont take it because i feel like im just going to get addicted to that too. Im through all the physical WD and i DO still have some cravings for opiates but nothing major, my problem is im depressed as FUCK! Ive been on the edge of suicidal for about three weeks. My doc said that it takes a long time for people's brains to start recovering from opiate use; for some people a few months..for others a few years.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of depression? Or know how long it will last? I have absolutely no interest in anything. Just getting out of bed in the morning is like a MAJOR effort and getting to work takes a monumental amount of effort! I am crying all the time and just feel completely disconnected to everything and everyone around me. I cant even take my poor dogs for a walk any more. I cant handle this much longer..does anyone have any advice? I have to drag my ass to work now.....uuugghhhhhh how long is this hell going to last?????

If your PAWS is that bad, then maybe you should take a small dose of suboxone, until you get everything sorted out. Did you improve other aspects of your life other than stopping your opiate use?

Many people find suboxone effective for keeping the PAWS away while they improve various areas of their lives (jobs, relationships, finances), and when they are in a better "place", they then taper off of the suboxone.

It may also be the seasons that are making you feel depressed. It is winter where I live, and the cold, dark weather has made it difficult to get out and feel good. Maybe wait til it is nice out to taper off (if you do choose to take the subs), it may help.

Everybody is different when it comes to PAWS depression. It lasted about two months for me, but everybody is different.

Here is a thread on Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome that might have some useful suggestions for you.

3 years is a considerable amount of time so naturally it'll take some time for your body and mind to recover. If the only way you addressed your addiction was through suboxone, then you would likely benefit from other treatment and support as well.

Opioid addiction has a substantial effect so you can't just expect to walk away unscathed - it takes some work to get things back on track. Support groups, group or individual counseling etc. might not only be beneficial but necessary to get through this period. Obviously I'm a little biased because I'm going in to the field but PAWS is one of the leading causes of relapse and the most effective ways to treat PAWS and recover from your use, is by taking as comprehensive of an approach as possible.

It sounds pretty terrible but I don't think it's uncommon and certainly not unprecedented. Perhaps you should look at taking an SSRI or other antidepressant-type med for a few months? Don't relapse! Don't do it you've come so far!

It took me a long time to get mentally balanced again when I got off heroin. The initial PAWS was hell, I could barely sleep and had nearly no motivation. BUT in time, I forced myself to exercise and I started to feel better. Getting those endorphins going again than I suppressed for years. I've felt the same exact feeling you have.. The feeling of wanting to cry and disconnection from everything and everyone.

What did wonders for me was just going out for a simple walk around the block. Maybe listening to some music too. But the act of walking around in nature. Breathing fresh air.. Just admiring the world around you. We lived our lives with our eyes half shut, we couldn't witness the beauty the world is capable of.

It's hard, but remember anything worth it isn't easy. This is an uphill battle but it wont stay like that forever.

Feel free to PM me or contact me on AIM if you wanna talk more about it. I've been through this many times.

Great post swerlz..... Needed to hear that. Piebald defeantly look into Lexapro. I heard its really good, and actually helps.

I suggest you avoid taking suboxone as you will get major PAWS when you get off of that in the future. You're already past the physical WD's, so why go there again.

I guess you should feel some relief knowing that your depression is going to go away in a few months time. It has a definitive cause, and it is temporary.

thanks everyone! I do think that part of the depression is seasonal, I live in Maine and let me tell you we have like 5 feet of snow up here. I DO have a good job an all the other aspects of my life are returning to normal...slowly...i can see why people would relapse though, I KNOW if i just took one little pill i would feel "all better" but i wont do that. I still think about it alot. I also gave up my gym membership (HAHAHAH becuase i was spending that money on oxy's ) So i should probably get that going again. This is the first time in my life i HAVENT been doing anything physical and i know its making everything worse.
