Hi guys,

I had a really bad fall a little over 2 weeks ago. Shattered my calcaneus (heel) into 5 pieces and fractured my hip as well. My hip was operated on right after the fall, but I just had surgery to repair my calcaneus over the weekend. They put a metal plate and 5 screws in there to hold it together. The nerve block I got immediately after the surgery wore off a while ago. I'm on 8mg of dilaudid every 3 hours, along with robaxin, tylenol and tramadol, but there's no real relief from the pain. I just keeps building and building. I can't stand up or have my leg point downwards, because the rush of blood to my foot magnifies the pain tenfold.

I just don't know what to do anymore. I feel like I'm drowning in the pain. All my optimism is gone, time seems to move at a snails pace. I've completely lost faith in opiates to deal with this kind of pain. In fact, I almost now despise the fact that I'm on them all the time. Can anyone give my some advice or some words of support? My resolve is failing

Holy shit that sounds painful :(

I think you just need to talk to your doctor about this, tell them the meds aren't helping...well just tell them what you just told us. There's really not much else to advise unfortunately...I'm sorry, good luck :\

If the drugs dont work, maybe ask for another nerve block?
And I wasnt this bad but I remember a bit of a similar situation when I was in the hospital. Man time moved slow there. I guess for the most part, optimism came with knowing youre getting a bit better with every minute. All you can do is to distract yourself with reading or movies as much as you can and sleep as much as you can :) . The first days are the worst. Just try to realize that everyday your going to be a bit closer to getting healthy again.
