possible to moderate heroin?

i'm involved in the drug users' movement here in Australia, and probably 2/3 of users working in the movement use once or twice a week.
admittedly, many of use are also on methadone, which is dealing with the physical cravings, but there are many others who have been through heavy habits, and have got it back to weekly or there abouts, and use no other opiates during the week.
the research is actually pretty clear on this - i'll try and get you a link.
a recent report estimates 70000 regular heroin users in OZ - but only 50000 dependent. that's actually a pretty good percentage. easy? no. possible? without doubt.

Came across some figures in New Scientist (10 November 2001), which stated that 80% of tobacco users were addicted while only 35% of heroin users were addicted (figures were apparently from US 1999). I think the actually percentage of heroin users addicted would be higher (probably somewhere around the 60%). Not sure how they define addicted.
Anyhow, I think it is possible to moderate heroin use, but it depends from person to person. Some people are more prone to developing addictions, and these people shouldn't risk it. Now toastyroachy, you say you have a very addictive personality, yet you have displayed restrained because you don't want to screw up at school. But can you keep up this restraint, or will you sooner or later give in to the lure of heroin? You have to decide how much you trust your own will power to keep your usage in check.

Most people that arean't addicted arean't chippers, they just try heroin so they get put into those statistics, most of the statistics on heroin arean't worth shit though cause they are extremely faulty. Also being a "frequent user" is using more 51 or more times per year.
