Really good paper here which collaborates a lot of information about the effects and health effects of GHB, with an entire section on neurotoxicity.
Seems to me what I can take away from this is that GHB is neurotoxic, but it's not likely to be a lot worse than alcohol, and in the grand scheme of things moderate doses on occasion are nothing to worry about?
