I've found numerous pages describing various recipes for making poppy seed tea. I also read many warnings discussing overdose potentials of the tea. I noticed that all deaths occurred when people used 1 pound or more of poppy seeds. I went to the local store and saw organic seeds (grey in color), mccormick ones (light black in color) and then went to the local health food store and found poppy seeds in the refrigerator that were dark black. I bought a bag of the dark black ones (some of them stuck to the funnel when I poured them in the bottle, is this an indication of strong seeds?) and mixed about 60 grams of it with 6oz of grapefruit juice, and shook it for 20 minutes, then poured it through a strainer to filter the seeds. Within about 5 minutes I noticed I was feeling more relaxed, and became more relaxed about 10 minutes later. This lasted maybe an hour then I felt fine the rest of the day.
Next is the part that worries me. The next day, I did the same thing except I used about 100 grams of poppy seeds and poured in some grapefruit juice (6 oz), shook it occasionally though out the day and mostly let it sit for about 8 hours that day. Then I poured half the juice through the strainer and drank it. I felt very relaxed but then started feeling and light itchy burn in my legs and arms, but then the relaxed and itching stopped after 45 minutes. I poured the rest of the juice (3 oz) into a cup and drank all of it. I noticed there was a yellow oily substance that started to separate on top of the grapefruit juice and it tasted a little nutty and earthy. About 10 minutes later, the itching and burning returned at about the same light intensity, but then I became extremely tired and was struggling to stay awake. I felt very nervous and nauseous but all I wanted to do was make sure I kept both eyes awake. After about 30 minutes, the extreme sleepiness went away and I started to feel more relaxed (maybe relieved) and within the next 30 minutes everything went back to normal (no hour of relaxed like the first time). Is there any way of knowing how close I was to an OD of tea? I used about 1/5 of a pound which should be far from a lethal dose but was my preparation what caused this bad experience?
The only thing I really want to "achieve" from this is a relaxed state like I got from Vicodin. Are there alternatives to the tea that I can take? Should I prepare the tea differently to get an effect more like Vicodin?
