So I had an alcohol problem for a few years, but last summer I went to rehab and now I've been alcohol-free for some time and have been taking Antabuse... I haven't been completely sober though, I have been occationally experimenting with other substances, mostly DXM. Then I had a bad DXM trip with paranoia and decided to try something else. I had heard about poppy seed tea years ago, and now I found a place where I can order the seeds online for a reasonable price. I ordered one kilogram last wednesday. The last time I had taken opioids (codeine, tramadol) was about five years ago.
On friday the package arrived. I first put 500g of seeds in a large soda bottle, added warm water and shaked for a few minutes. Then I filtered the water and started drinking it. The liquid was somewhat yellow and had a bitter alkaloidal taste. 45 minutes later I could already feel some effects, but not enough, so I made more tea from another 500g of seeds and drank it, too.
The effects peaked about an hour later. Intoxicated feeling, weakness in the legs when walking, motion sickness-like nausea and a desire to lie down. Also had a dry mouth, which I guess is a common side-effect of opiates. I'd compare the effects to a 200mg dose of codeine. It was quite long-acting, 9 hours after drinking the tea I was still feeling high and nauseous and almost puked on the pavement when I went out to buy some cigarettes.
Next morning I had a headache and a hangover-like feeling (apparently opiates cause a "hangover" in some people).
Next time I'll order some dried poppy pods to see if they work better...
