Ok, my background with pod tea:
i. First year of use involved bi-weekly teas made from 4-6 jumbos. Every now and then I'd do a few more or would make two batches of tea in a day, often ending up puking the next morning.
Over the next two years I increased to 3/4 times weekly and now I'm struggling to stop it being a daily habit of 7/8 jumbos.
ii. I've always microwaved crushed pods in pyrex containers with near-boiling water. Used to be 800 watts for 45 minutes, changed to 700 watts for 60 minutes and recently it is 600 watts for 80-90 minutes.
I decided that rather than waste the poppy grounds after making tea, I'd eat them. Sure, I tried a spoonful before and almost heaved but this time would be different.
In my fridge, sat a pitcher full of home blended apple juice and a bowl full of the pulp - which had the texture of baby food/sorbet and tasted as close to cooking apples as it did to the eating apples it actually consisted of.
So, I brewed a 3 jumbos pod tea
(shortage of pods + potential delay of new delivery due to snow = cutbacks)
in the microwave and after I'd filtered the liquid into a jug, I poured the warm, course pod pieces into a blender with the apple gunk + some apple juice. Poured this into a bowl.
I sat listening to music and drank the 1600ml of tea as normal. Then the gloopy bowl of pods and apple was all that was left. It tasted...not bad! I didn't care for the fibrous texture that was apparent every few mouthful but I was able to get the whole thing down.
The buzz was mild, given the number of pods. However, when I woke the next morning I didn't find myself thinking about when I'd make todays batch of pod tea and I can picture myself lasting till tomorrow for the first time in weeks.
This TR was a little long I know but I just wanted to suggest the blended apple/fruit + pods mixture to those looking to cut down their usage. The tea alone wouldn't have normally kept me from re-dosing for the 21+ hours I'm currently at so this is how I'm going to go in future.
