Poppers ... how much is too much ??

This weekend I was at a rave where me and my friends took the usual pills as always, but this time we got hold of two new bottles of popper.
It was quite strong, and since it was the first time we got bottles just for us (other times it was just people who gave us a taste) we took quite a lot of inhalations, I took about 6 to 8, other friend took quite a lot.
My question is how much popper is too much ?? it depends on what ?? how strong you feel it ... how long and deep the inhalations ?? if it's new .. recently open, etc ??
Thanks for any hints, experiences, etc.
Manuel

Usually gay guys use it to loosen up their assholes. It gives you a big headrush, but if you do too much of it you'll get a bad headache. It's really not good for you either. Not that any drugs are, but this stuff is just stupid.
Plus, poppers are amyl nitrate which were common in the 70's. Nowadays people refer to poppers as the little bottles of "VCR Head Cleaner" or "LockerRoom" etc. that you can buy in headshops. This butyl nitrate.
Which do you have?

What relevance does that have to the topic?

WRONG!
First off, the original poppers are Amyl Nitrite NOT Amyl Nitrate (amyl nitrate is another useful drug in pharmacology but is NOT the same thing).
Similarly, after Amyl Nitrite became a prescription-only drug, Butyl Nitrite quickly replaced it, NOT Butyl Nitrate.
Shortly thereafter, more comprehensive legislation was written that made similar compounds unlawful (covering Butyl Nitrite, Isobutyl Nitrite, Isopropyl Nitrite, etc).
The VCR Head Cleaner of today is more often than not Cyclohexyl Nitrite...It is NOT Butyl Nitrite (or Butyl Nitrate). The now prevalent Cyclohexyl Nitrite is pretty shitty in comparison to Amyl Nitrite or even Butyl Nitrite...which is pretty bad considering Amyl Nitrite pretty much sucked in the first place.
To answer the original question, I agree with sputnic, any amount is too much. From my experience, any amount that is enough to produce a "high" (if you want to call it that) is enough to cause a pretty bad headached that lasts many times longer.

Looks like I got hit by the spelling police, although I stand by what I said. In the summer of 2000 the little bottle of VCR Head Cleaner that I bought in a headshop was marked Butyl Nitrite. (Thanks for the spelling correction Craig).
The gay guy comment was mentioned because that was what they really were used for primarily. I guess now it's cool to do them for a rush, or to enhance your roll. I don't know, but the VCR Head Cleaner I bought was for shits and giggles and it was a waste of 3 dollars.

Its not just spelling, like he said they are two different chemicals. Kind of like manganese and magnesium (I always got the damned things confused).

He didn't have to be an asshole with the
WRONG! craig420 is a dork, if someone is wrong don't be an asshole just correct it and be done with it jackass.

I wasn't trying to be an asshole to Craig, it's just that I was giving what I thought was accurate advice, he jumped down my throat on the spelling, but I believe I was correct on all accounts. I'm not a dickhead, please set me straight if I was wrong, but don't get on my case because I said nitrate instead of nitrite, you know well what I meant. I have experience with the stuff. No flame to Craig420. No harm meant.

Sorry Craig420 for somewhat flaming you when I was clearly in th wrong. Luckily "poppers" don't last that lont so you can start driving not long after using. Just be safe, please.

dan, he was calling me an asshole not you. In any case apology noted.
But as for the correction, as sonar said above, I wasn't simply correcting a spelling mistake. I couldn't give a rats ass about spelling. First, the nitrate/nitrite thing is an actual chemical mistake. There are nitrites and then there are nitrates, they are not the same and taking one as opposed to the other could have serious consequences. Second, there was the "mistake" of misidentifying the "poppers" of today as the butyl analogue, but in reality that is not what they contain nowadays. I'm awefully surprised to hear you found some recently that contained butyl seeing as that's been banned for some time now. Whereabouts did you pick it up?
(Note: the comments about being banned are all specific to the US...you can find all the nitrites readily in Amsterdam, and you can find butyl and others in Canada and England and god knows where else)
Lastly, I wasn't trying to be an ass. Yea, so I guess the caps and exclamation weren't necessary. I guess I was just unnerved by the stereotyped comments about popper use and gays and whatnot.

I picked up the butyl nitrite stuff in some sex shop in Times Square, NYC a couple years ago.

Both butyl nitrite and amyl nitrite reappeared within the past two years in a whole variety of sexshops in major urban areas. They are also available by mailorder from thousands of sexshops/headshops across the country.
The butyl nitrite is being sold under the name RUSH, but there are a lot of imitations, so you ahve to make sure it's butyl or isobutyl nitrite. The amyl nitrite (pure!) is an import from our Canadian neighbors, and bears the name JUNGLE JUICE.
You really don't want to have more than 3 inhalations of any of this stuff per hour, I'd estimate. There is a kind of tolerance effect, so that by the third time, you'll feel almost nothing. The first time is the best, and some people just leave it at that.

Some words seem to spark a PC section of the brain in some people, allowing them to forego the process of extracting meaning from whatever they just read.
Kind of like manganese and magnesium
This is off topic, but what's manganese used in anyway? and how do you pronounce that?
And i guess what passes for 'popper' isnt even worth doing now eh?
