Politicians say the darndest things

ever.

his fan-base on the internet is going to crumble when the information highway yields those fans some actual "information".

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann on Saturday described the loss of "economic liberty" that young Americans face today as a "flash point of history" in which the younger generation will ask what their elders did to stop it.

In a speech to New Hampshire Republicans, Bachmann recounted learning about a horrific time in history as a child — the Holocaust — and wondering if her mother did anything to stop it. She said she was shocked to hear that many Americans weren't aware that millions of Jews had died until after World War II ended.

Bachmann said the next generation will ask similar questions about what their elders did to prevent them from facing a huge tax burden.

"I tell you this story because I think in our day and time, there is no analogy to that horrific action," she said, referring to the Holocaust. "But only to say, we are seeing eclipsed in front of our eyes a similar death and a similar taking away. It is this disenfranchisement that I think we have to answer to."

you just fucking compared Taxes to the fucking HOLOCAUST you fucking psychopath

Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City, said minorities earn less than white people because they don’t work as hard and have less initiative.

“We have a high percentage of blacks in prison, and that’s tragic, but are they in prison just because they are black or because they don’t want to study as hard in school? I’ve taught school, and I saw a lot of people of color who didn’t study hard because they said the government would take care of them.

jesus.

this video (even though it's from ThinkProgress which is a bit hard to take sometimes) is kind of awesome.

ron paul: kill medicaid, medicare, and social security?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qojv1bR-S0&feature=channel_video_title

to any ron paul fans... this is why he'll never win, and it's why he should never win.

It's ending itself anyway, THROUGH BANKRUPTCY.
He would give people the chance to opt out, lower taxes eventually abolishing income tax, he wouldn't just cut it out of thin air, as people are dependent on it, he would try to wean people off of government programmes and do this steadily by ending the militarism so there is money at home. These programmes are corporate monopolies anyway, and prices just go up and up. He would open up the market to create competition which will lower prices and increase standards. He's been in the medical profession for almost half a century so I'm sure he knows a lot more than people who pretend to know what they're talking about.

Ya know I gotta say, I don't follow politics very closely, and I don't know his politics or his actions, but I just fell in love with Anthony Weiner's attitude.

“It’s like in golf. A lot of people — I don’t want this to sound trivial — but a lot of people are switching to these really long putters, very unattractive. It’s weird. You see these great players with these really long putters, because they can’t sink three-footers anymore. And, I hate it. I am a traditionalist. I have so many fabulous friends who happen to be gay, but I am a traditionalist.”

- Donald Trump attempts to explain his stance on gay marriage with some completely non-sensical metaphor involving sporting goods equipment.

^ Fuckin LOL =D

Reminds me of that South Park where they hire Johnny Cochran for a trial, he gets up to present his case and just goes "Chubaka is a wookie...."

Gotta love misdirection.

unbreakable has no cogent answers 8(

Ok, so there's a nearby representative who says that driving is an inalienable right, that obama was born in kenya, and that banks should be forced to accept gold and silver coins. The trifecta def earns him a spot here.

Thats good... I bought some 1oz american eagles [$50 gold coins] back in 2002 to give to my 6 kids and grand kids on special events. One of my sons graduated HS last yr and I gave him one. I was kinda hoping he would save it and told him so. I also told him what it was worth. [about $1250 then]. Long story/short. He takes it to a local bank and some idiot teller offered him 2 $20 bills and a $10. He comes to me [thinking I lied to him] and I tell him I advised him to save it and let me know in advnce if he was going to cash. Anyway, I took him to local numismatic gold exchange and they actually gave him $12 over spot price because it was an Eagle coin. I think he inadvertantly learned a good lesson about banks.

I'll name a few Obama classics...

"UPS and FedEx are doing just fine, right? It's the Post Office that's always having problems." –attempting to make the case for government-run healthcare, while simultaneously undercutting his own argument, Portsmouth, N.H., Aug. 11, 2009

"Let me be absolutely clear. Israel is a strong friend of Israel's. It will be a strong friend of Israel's under a McCain...administration. It will be a strong friend of Israel's under an Obama administration. So that policy is not going to change." --Amman, Jordan, July 22, 2008

"It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." --explaining his troubles winning over some working-class voters

qwe - an even more maddening TYT vid on the Gang of Six cutting Social Security:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txKL9tFqS3Y&feature=relmfu

Social security is a fucking ponzi scheme, except its even worse because the investors are literally forced to buy into the system. Government should be solely focused on providing its people with life's essentials, but instead its just the rich's system to steal from the poor, and the blame gets diffused across all the federal government. Statistics like the less workers more retireee's" argument are total BS, it wouldnt matter how many workers there are if the governement hadnt robbed social security blind fighting wars, cutting taxes, and subsidizing companies that are already insanely profitable.

And even with all this glaring abuse congress continues with huge spending bills take YOUR MONEY, give it to corperations, then pass laws saying these same corporations can openly buy politicians with no limit to how much they can donate, its madness.

sourcing every now and then is nice, but i gotta say, Jesus' story is probably one of a homeless teenage mother. She lived with her parents, even though she was 'married' (minus a formal ceremony 8)) to joseph (why wasn't she living with joseph? probably because he couldn't afford it and/or he was living with his parents because he was a self employed carpenter, which probably means the same thing today as it meant then) and yeah, they were traveling to Bethlehem to pay their tax, but it's not like the couple had anywhere to go to once they got done with that little multi month errand.

Then why not FIX social security, medicare and other social services instead of getting rid of them outright? Getting rid of them will do no one any good, especially those of us that are dependent on them.

No new stupid Obama quotes? I thought this was a thread for quotes and statements regarding the upcoming election.

Anyone who questions whether the US should have killed Osama bin Laden needs to have their "head examined", President Barack Obama has said in response to critics. =D
