Police Brutality Thread

Fentanyl is super easy to overdose and die from even at low levels and addicts and regular users with a tolerance to opiates overdose on low doses of Fentanyl all the time, and random amounts of Fentanyl used by addicts or polydrug users/addicts on their own is not the same as a controlled and known amount used in a hospital for anesthesia by surgeons, doctors, or anesthesiologists.

The estimated lethal dose of fentanyl in humans is 2 mg. The recommended serum concentration for analgesia is 1–2 ng/ml and for anaesthesia it is 10–20 ng/ml. Blood concentrations of approximately 7 ng/ml or greater have been associated with fatalities where poly-substance use was involved.

Street fentanyl has hot spots and some is stronger than other batches, so its notoriously deadly. However, if someone took a very small dose of a very potent street fentanyl and died, their toxicology report would show lethal blood concentrations. While the source you found (first google result I got) does say that concentrations as little as 7ng/mL have been lethal in drug combinations, that is specifically with other substances that depress breathing or potentiate opioids, notably benzodiazepines or other depressants, not meth. But Floyd had small amounts of meth as well as fentanyl in his blood so that doesn't really pan out. And most importantly, those concentrations are for non-tolerant people. There are case studies of people who have been addicted to opioids for many years who can take 20 or more times the lethal dose for a non-tolerant individual and be fine. Opiate addicts regularly take doses that would have killed them before they got addicted, it's just how it works. Now I don't know how much tolerance Floyd had, but chances are, if he was such a huge drug addict, he had at least some, if not a lot. So 11ng/mL is simply not enough to cause him to die.

Not everyone here on bluelight is an addict, into hard drugs, addicted to hard drugs, etc.

Sorry didn't realize your drugs were classier than everyone else's.

Please proceed to inhale carcinogenic smoke into your lungs, consume neurotoxic and hepatoxic craft solvent, or consume psychedelic RCs laden with heavy metals from dirty synths from china.

Drugs are drugs. They're all gonna bite you in the end.

That’s because we are a broad church that welcomes everyone wanting to participate in good faith in our project of harm minimisation for substance users. And we take a pretty broad view of harm that includes stigmatisation.

As you say, not everyone is connected with hard drugs but we don’t really differentiate: we are here in support of people with any kind of substance abuse (and increasingly mental health) problem. Including those who may have committed heinious acts on their troubled journey through life.

Eh...

Did I say I didn't? Where did I even remotely imply that? Stop fucking victimizing yourself and try to see beyond the scope of your ridiculous fox-informed reductionist world view. There is no one attacking you, or anyone, for being white. You are simply used to "whites" being impervious to their crimes, and shocked and horrified that it is being addressed. It's sad, very sad, and clear as day to anyone but reactionary apologists that think like yourself.

I can't even begin to understand how you see the world... how is it possible that someone's crimes can't be discussed without bringing up another's, as if it is some sort of excuse. Smh

And even then, way back when, there were the benevolent people who knew better and fought against it, and strived for change.

Did not realize that, I only thought it was a few delusional people on this forum pushing that false narrative.

So you know what i think? No you don't. I asked a simple question and you didn't answer . You blame the founders for doing what was the norm back then but do you blame the African slave sellers? You seem outraged about white men owning slaves but not at the people who sold them. So which side do you stand on? Anti slavery which includes anti black slave sellers or only holding the buyer accountable?

I ask because society is full of people who want to look good and anti racist, SJW types

And i didn't use any excuse, i asked a question . And i'm defiantly not victimizing myself and don't watch FOX. Why do you get so assuming over a simple question?
And the crime being discussed is owning slaves, why can only the white owners be mentioned and not the people selling them?

And why do you assume i'm white?

It’s not necessary to discuss African or Arab slavers to determine the moral culpability of America’s founding fathers in the matter of slaves. You’ve made what is known as a red herring fallacy which is typical of either very cunning debaters or people who have nothing meaningful to say. If there is anything to say about the connection between the two groups, it would be that America’s founding fathers created the economic incentives that led to African and Arab slavers doing their thing (though slavery was already an ancient practice in those cultures).

Anti-slavery was a position held by influential and important people as far back as 1066 in England and all through the early colonisation of the Americas there were anti-slavery voices and movements. Those people who held slaves (and mistreated them in almost unimaginable ways) may have been a significant number but it was by no means the moral and ethical norm of the period to own slaves despite it being legal.

I like knowing how people view everyone involved. So it was the white man buying slaves that made the African men sell them? That is ridiculous and i'm sure you know they sold slaves before the white man even discovered america. Who "made" them do that? You are feeding the victim mentality though and sounding very bias against white people. The white man buying slaves made the black man sell them ? even before the white man was involved?
The white guilt is strong with some of you

Why do people here start with personal attacks(" nothing meaningful to say") when someone ask a question or don't agree with the left's narrative? it's happened twice and i signed up yesterday. Asking question is how people understand where others stand on issues. I don't know why you and another has to be rude and even telling me to FU when i have not insulted anyone .

Let me guess you are a tolerant liberal?

Of course I’m tolerant. Who the hell would want to be intolerant? Intolerance is the flipside of ignorance.

I don’t hold to a particular political or social label. I just try to work with facts, logic and reason.

I hardly personally attacked you. You could have gone with the ‘cunning debater’ option. But you will have to get used to a swift takedown if you try and debate without a proper and relevant argument.

To be honest I’d rather have a pleasant discussion of different opinions where both sides learn something. But people aren’t really into that in this thread.

See, now you are using an even weaker tactic of wilfully misrepresenting what I originally argued. Here, I’ll remind you:

If there is anything to say about the connection between the two groups, it would be that America’s founding fathers created the economic incentives that led to African and Arab slavers doing their thing (though slavery was already an ancient practice in those cultures).
The American economy changed that ancient practice to an industrial scale project

Asking questions is how you learn something. I asked questions to get the mindset of a stranger. It's a valid question whether you think so or not. Quite a few people jump the bandwagon and always want to appear tolerant so i was trying to figure if it's someone completely against slavery or just against certain groups who have practiced it. It seems you think that is wrong and no questions should be asked, give black slave owners a pass because well... the white man made them do it. imo and the majority of the African population think ALL involved were wrong so i know what group you and the other person falls into

I’ll say it again here. George Floyd has done way more for the world dead, than he could have ever done while he was alive. His family is much better off (financially) now that he is dead. I think that Chauvin and the other officers involved in his death deserve to be in jail for a long time for what they did. I’m grateful that the cops are being held accountable for their actions. I hope that this sets a precedent to all of law enforcement that they can no longer willfully kill black people and hide behind their badges like cops use to be able to do.

George Floyd was not a good man and was a violent criminal stuck in heavy addiction that used crime to maintain his flawed and violent lifestyle. Would he have turned his life around and got the help he so desperately needed to be a model citizen? Probably not? But that doesn’t give the cops the right to take the law into their own hands and kill him.

I do not mourn the loss of George Floyd’s life at all. He is not someone that deserves to have his portrait painted on the sides of buildings and given this rose colored memory of him. The world is much better off with him dead, that’s for sure. Because of the murderous actions that the police took against him last year, the country and the world in general is better off than if they did their jobs professionally that day. Fuck George Floyd and Chauvin and the other cops that caused this fucking mess can go away forever.

Well, sorry to say man I've sold a lot of drugs, I've robbed and burglarized many people, heavy in addiction, lived a flawed and criminal lifestyle, have a 300 credit score and owe thousands in debt, I've never owned a house, I've hurt a lot of people, have major mental illness. I've never had kids. I'm uneducated and never finished highschool. Total druggy fuck up in life.

and all I can read in your words is "I would say the same thing about Snafu if he was murdered by police"

unless you can explain how I'm any different than Floyd other than the color of my skin

Someone's actions in life are not some final judgement. I've hurt a lot of people, but I also changed, saw the light and every day I am trying to be better.

or maybe someone should just kneel on my neck while I cry for mommy... world better off with no Snafus in it

If you think Floyd deserves to be murdered than you think I should be, too. Or am I twisting words here?

Do you think Floyd was trying to be a better person? Do I deserve another chance at life?

Whatever happened to Christians believing someone who has sinned can be redeemed by Jesus? Does that not apply to people like Floyd.. or me?

Do I deserve to die and go to hell? I already know nobody will actually answer this question because we all know what's really going on here.

Hate is toxic. Purge it from you.

The hate you feel for this man is closer to Hell than Heaven... where is your mind at?

I am speaking aloud, generally, to whoever is listening.

For anyone that actually thinks Floyd deserves to be dead, or the world is better off without him...

Hatred is so wrong. Why do you harbor it? What did Floyd do to you?

I am going to flood this thread with love because none of you can argue or defeat love. I'd like to see you try. <3

I thought I was clear that I do not think the African slave traders, or any other of the huge amount of non-white societies that have partaken in slavery, human trafficking, torture, genocide, etc, are excusable. Totally despicable. What does that have to do with discussing its just as bad our founding fathers did, just because we are white we must justify their crimes by mentioning that other races did the same ? That wasn't what we were discussing. Sorry for being rude earlier it's just I think this would appear obvious, if you weren't being manipulated by the media you are watching to think it's an attack on your heritage. Do you really consider some centuries passed slaver owners your heritage? Well it's 2021 and culture is shifting whether you like it or not, and most people are not okay with having their ststues around considering the atrocities they committed/enabled.

Just a little explanation Jenn, and welcome to the forums, the same thing happened to me, because I don't regard George Floyd a hero but a career criminal, who got killed for not obeying the officers orders, it's all on video, I came back on this thread just for you and I'm back out, tread lightly, I was called names too and then was warned for name calling and escalating the situation when it was certain members on here who were name calling me and escalating the issue.

Simply because I'ts no sweat off my back that dangerous law offender died and an officer who protects the lives of people, and some people are alive possibly because of him, hadn't the Floyd guy been restrained, is going to jail for doing his job.

You think matters are going to get better here in America, now that the criminals have the power?

Now I'm oughta here for good, y'all can have your hero George Patterson.

Sorry for flipping out at you. I dont agree with you at all, we definitely wouldn't make good friends but you are entitled to your opinion and due respect. Imnsorry

Chauvin has been offered a plea deal in the Federal case. He pleaded guilty to Civil Rights violations. The Federal Court upheld his 22.5 year sentence in his State case so he will now be serving his sentence in a Federal prison. Much more pleasant environment ( boatload better than a State prison )

But....State facilities have good behavior and other ways to get a reduced sentence. The Feds do NOT follow this practice. He WILL serve all 22.5 .

That's what he meant when he stood up at sentencing and said that in a few days they would have some news that would bring the Floyd family some peace.

Since most of you only want to argue race, I thought I would bring you a bit of legal news.

The thread has been derailed so much about race and politics that until there is news about the " other 3 " that still have yet to be offered a plea or stand trial I will leave you all to it.

It's because this is a political forum and politics has become incredibly toxic, even moreso than it always was.

As I see it, the "conservative" side in this current political climate is seeking to justify and excuse the problems, and the "liberal" side is turning absolutely everything into a racial discussion. Both sides are virtue signaling far too often. We need to realize that there are valid points on both sides but the atmosphere is too charged to do that, usually.

I no longer have any emotional investment or interest in this thread, need to wash my hands because now I'm thinking about it all day and it's wasting brain cells.

For the record, it seems I completely annihilated the lot of you in this "debate" or whatever it was. Obliterated so badly you apparently were speechless and don't know or care how to explain your viewpoint. Either that or the very generic Fox news-esque argument you grasp onto is completely invalid in a place like BL where you are surrounded by people just like Floyd, so maybe you didn't have a backup argument stowed away. Not ONE of you answered a single question I asked. That's not even a debate. That's a complete shutdown. Shut out. Perfect pitched game.
