Police break up alleged drug-fuelled gay orgy in Vatican apartment
Vatican police broke up an allegedly drug-fuelled homosexual orgy in an apartment belonging to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Italian media reports.
Vatican police raided the party at the apartment last month, allegedly finding a group of men under the influence of drugs, Il Fatto Quotidiano reports.
It’s understood the apartment was the home of the secretary of Cardinal Francesco Coccopalmerio, who is believed to have since undertaken a clinical detox.
Cardinal Coccopalmerio is the head of the Pontifical Council for Legislative texts and one of Pope Francis’ key advisers.
He had recently recommended his secretary get a promotion to bishop, but it’s understood he has suffered two previous drug overdoses and that may now be in jeopardy, the Australian reports.
Homosexual intercourse is not illegal in the Vatican.
The incident comes just one week after the Vatican was shook by sex abuse allegations made against Australian Cardinal George Pell.
