pokies

Occasionally if I'm uber-bored at our local I'll slip into the pokies and play out my change, never more than $10. And once that's gone, that's it.

I enjoy playing them but I know how easily "just $10" can turn into "just another $10" until you've spent the equivalent of your drinks for the night.....

I've been known to play the pokies every now and then.
If I have money to lose, I won't bet more than $5. And normally stick to 20c bets.

If you want good pokies to play:

Stay away from Cleopatra.. EVERYONE plays it.. it's called a show machine.. It wins a few cents every second or third push.. just to keep people putting money back in.. these machines never win big!

Thew newer a poker machine is, the bwetter chance you have of winning, because new pokies are loose and have to get to their 87.5% cash out over time.. so at the start they seem alot looser. thats why there is always freaks with their pojkie card on a fucking string attached to themselves.. on those new machines putting $50 in.

Dollar machines are the devil, you just do NOT win if you bet $1 a go on $1 machines.. If you want to win, have $20 to SPARE, and bet $5 a go on a Konami machine.. theyre normally set at 90% pay out in the areas around here. Bit of a show machine, but a bit of a pay out machine. But otherwise, stay away from $1 bets on the dollar machines..

Also, if you have big RSL's around.. you could try hobo punting..
On the sit down machine, the ones with the screens facing like.. up diagonally you sit down at.. on the right bottom side.. they have a change trap.. IOf the coin comparater is a normal dollar in these types of machines, it's quite often you will find special year edition dollar coins in them.. because if the dollar coin doesn't go down the queens head facing scanner, and it isn't a standard dollar, it won't take it.. SO yeah, you can normally find about $30 in a big RSL in bout.. half n hour.. not talking about experience.. and being banned from places... and fighting security guards... or anything.. just word by mouth :)

Have fun gambling, and remember, if it IS a problem, and you ARE gambling more than you can afford to lose, you can ban yourself from ANY club in NSW and VIC, the club must have forms to ban yourself, Self-exclusion forms they call em... And phone G-Line or something...

I'm terminally unlucky when it comes to everything...... The most I've won at the pokies is about $10 and thats coz when I won it I said "Crap I won something! Quick, better cash in!".

I know people who can make quite a bit of money gambling.. but its just not my thing.

stace.

Never really been a gambler, when im at a casino, or rsl , i usually gamble out of bordom, the most i've ever won on the pokies would be about 800 dollars, well to get that much, i put in 80 dollars and was doing max bets on a dollar machine.

I dont actively go to the casino with the intention of gambling, but about 5 times a year i end up there after a big night. I personally find the concept of pokies wrong (programmed to take your money, and button pushing aint exactly a skill) and stick to the blackjack tables.
I'd normally have about 20 bucks im willing to 'lose', although sometimes i do find myself walking out at some ludicrous hour with hundreds in my pocket.

The most I've won on those ridiculous machines is about $200. I find them rather addictive, therefore I stay away from them these days.

I look at gambling with the same sadness I view heroin. Sure some people can play recreationally, but the misery it causes for those who can't stop can't be measured in dollars and cents. What do you think is the ratio of pokie machines to family breakdowns in Victoria?

I don't begrudge people their right to gamble, both my parents were pretty keen gamblers though so I don't really think much of it. :\

Shame! Shame! Shame!

I've actually never gambled in my life. I've never bought a scratchie, nothing.

Its quite funny. I like the concept of gambling, but the whole 'you lose more often than you win' thing makes me look at it like a rather complicated way of losing money.

I went to Star City for a work party once, walked around, looked at the people gambling, laughed at them. Then went off and railed stuff in the toilets.

I've never been attracted to gambling. Guess I'm a strange one. How un-Australian of me.

-plaz out-

I dont like gambling because people actually see it as a way to maximise there money.

Gambling in my mind is a recreational thing.. The pokies only purpose is so that the people who play them can get lost just watching the colours fly around. You cant win on pokies but its like having a cigarette... u know u just kinda get in that comfort zone for a while.

I never liked pokies because they seem like they are made to take your money and the way they pay out doesnt agree with me.. ie u spin lose 5 lose 5 lose 5 lose 5 lose 5 win 20 lose five etc.

I do like black jack though its a fun game...

but i think that u have to look at gambling from an accountants perspective...

anticipate losses and never think u are going to walk away from the table than more... if u do its a bonus... this way u can easy recognise when to walk away as u have set yourself a flaw... also if u are up... u should think its time to get out... cause usually u will end up below what u started with and will lose the whole lot

MY strategy is to get in... get out if u make quick money its easier to spend at the bar... :D

have fun kids

It's slightly ironic to talk about the evils of gambling on bluelight. And this isn't a comment about drugs being addictive either, so don't yell at me... ;)

/end vague reference

My mum was a hardcore gambler, so I'm not really all that thrilled with the idea...every now and then I'll do it, but not as a normal hobby or whatever...

However, I have one GREAT gambling story....I was stone cold broke, three days from pay day, not even enough cash to buy food for the next couple of days, let alone go out clubbing or whatever...

Found a dollar coin on the ground, right outside a little pokies place in the city. I thought "what the fuck, I'm broke anyways" and went in to try me luck...

....Anyways, I came out with $280 ten minutes later and great weekend was had by all!

w00t!!

:D --Raz-- :D

Pokies are the most depressing thing in the world and I hate them with a passion.

i fully agree... and this is coming from a self confessed gambling addict... i have been addicted to gambling in the past but i haven't played in over 5 years now, or gambled in a casino in over 6... but that doesn't mean that i couldn't relapse. I am just very careful and a whole heap more mature now than i was when i was 18...

gambling: you can win, but in the end you can lose, you can lose everything... [yes its a cliche but i had to]

be careful with what you are doing and don't fall into the "just another $10 trap"

good luck out there :\

*shudder*

gambling, i have had both good and bad experiences...

Good being, at schoolies i got robbed 400 bucks, mid week, leaving me with like 120 left for 3 days or wotever, so my solution? Phone the cops? Report it? No! far far too sensable, its schoolies! So i got shitfaced that arvo with my mates, went to Jupiters casino with my 120 and walked out with 500 hundred after a sollid 3 hour black jack session. Im telling you i was a fucking wreck after!

Bad experience would be putting 300 in pokies one night for no reason and then realising how fucking dumb i was and that i needed the money to buy more booze and have FUN

Sigh im so dumb when it comes to this shit :)

Pokies are the fungus of gambling... a social drain made for suckers in the lower income bracket, to take what they have.

Bright lights. Loud noises. Computer graphics. Public jackpot. All to convince poor schmucks that this can make their life easier. The life destroyer. The crack of the casino.

Keep them out of the pubs and inside the casinos... stop encouraging working joes to make the rich mens pockets heavier with their meagre earnings. Like reverse-ATMs, they eat the wifes clothes and kids schoolbook money. Youre apparently not even good enough to lose your money to a real live person anymore. Much easier if you just donate this way, and you wont block our doorways.

Bin em.
