Poetry Assignments suck.

Why must professors make us write papers analyzing the babblings of the mentally unstable? One of these poems is the most incomprehensible pieces of literature I have ever laid my eyes on, calling it babbling is giving it too much credit. I have heard better monologues from the schizos. who ride public transportation.

I would like to add that this is not a generalization of all poetry, I can appreciate good poetry, this is not a "poetry is for chicks" rant. I just do not understand why professors have to dig up the most inarticulate almost schizophrenic rant that does not even rhyme and have us write several pages on something that is only three stanzas. It is fucking bullshit.

What can I possibly learn from this?

If you don't mind me asking, why are you taking this course?

That is why I fucking hate art/poetry. I can appreciate a good song or painting, but actually delving into the world of art is infuriating to no end. Give me an equation or chemical structure any day, I want nothing to do with something so subjective.
