three bellowing knocks on an oakwood door
then it creaks open with a broken roar
to a massive foyer, dark and silent
a great chandelier that sparkles vibrant
I say "It's quiet, too quiet."
You say, "Let's shout!"
I say, "No, you try it!"
so you yell, with no reply
then one more time and it shakes the sky
in response we heard a whisper
invoking goosebumps and nervous blisters
a frightening chill and the voices grew
all the furniture was making noises too
the front door slammed and it locked it self
pictures shattered from off the shelf
i ran for cover by a velvet couch
and removed my knife from within its pouch
I say "Shit, look, what have you done?"
You say, "calm down," as if your having fun
just then i stared up and i saw the phantoms
gas and light throwing angry tantrums
they descend the stairs and form a circle
eyes just glare and their bodies purple
then the mood all changed they settled down
they said, "Hey, you must be from out of town."
In a state of shock I tried to speak
stuttered and i stammered with my tongue in cheek
then i managed, " Wait...your'e..not mad?"
They laughed, "what makes your think we're so bad?"
I looked at you and smiled wide
always admiring your wild side
then the ghosts looked over and said, "Look, please
Let us take you to the kitchen and well talk over tea."
So they told us the tale of how they watch the people
in the town all beleiving in their life's sequel
"See they assume happiness in the next life,
SO in this one, they don't pursue the things they like."
I gave this a long and deep thought
and realized the new lesson that we were taught
They went on, "anyway, they come to this house,
full of suspicion and full of doubt.
SO we scare them off, we dont like their kind,
they already assume what theyre going to find."
So every few years, a few come along
that dont think anyone's beliefs are wrong
and to these lucky few, we reveal ourselves
if they promise that our secrets they wont ever tell"
we glided from fear to thought to clear perception
and i realized this place was worth giving an inspection
so we left with dreams tied tight to our hearts
it was time for our lives to really start
