Opioids Pod Withdrawal - close to 60 hours in and feeling better??

wouldn't magnesium cause you to shit your pants even worse? I used to take it to counter the constipation from opiates (among other things). I miss having so much control over my bowel movements as an opiate user. But also like to clean everything out once a day rather than feeling blocked up and bloated. I hate that feeling. It was nice when i was working that i knew i wouldnt have to take a poo in one of the disgusting bathrooms they had.

Nope, Magnesium actually causes constipation, but it must be in a readily bioavailable form (so yes, it must be chelated for these purposes, or in a Mg Taurinate form). Every other Mg supplement preparation causes diarrhea, since Mg Citrate (causes diarrhea in 600mg+ doses, but is used in 200mg tablets for Mg supplementation) and Mg Oxide (even worse for supplementation, but better for constipation relief).

When a non-readily bioavailable, poorly absorbed, Mg preparation enters the stomach, it attracts water by binding to it, acting as an osmotic laxative before it even has a chance to get to the intestines for absorption.

The fact that Mg slows bowel movements and casues constipation goes to show how terrible the Mg Oxide and Mg Citrate preparations are for actual Magnesium supplementation, and how useful these poorly absorbed forms are for acting as an osmotic laxative, much like Polyethylene Glycol 440 (MiraLAX).

i see thanks for the info. i was using magnesium citrate for relieve of constipation. I've also used chelated magnesium as an attempt to maintain/prevent tolerance to opiates, with a bit of success. But mostly i needed the citrate to counteract the nasty side effects of opiates, constipation. I didn't know the different forms actually had different uses.

I quit pods cold turkey after a 4-year habit and had no vomiting or diarrhea at all. But the emotional symptoms were severe and lasted well over 3 months. Even so, I never felt any cravings or desire to use. Opiates just make me feel "normal", so there's no temptation to relapse for the sake of getting high. I just feel like a crazy bitch for months. Same with Prozac or other psych meds--I never realize how much they stabilize my mood until I stop taking them.

That said, I'd never consider going on anti-addiction meds for pods. From what I've read, methadone and Suboxone are often harder to quit than "recreational" opiates.

Congrats on your recovery! Keep us posted.
