Can drugs cause effects in the peripheral nervous system without the CNS being involved? What made me wonder was a user in PD mentioning an unusual body high from transdermal administration of LSD. I'm inclined to explain it by placebo / bias or psychosomatic effects, but what about direct nervous stimulation? I was never really sure if all body sensation effects and influence of drugs was 100% an effect on proprioception and processing of data from all over the body... or if on top of that there are also kinds of serotonergic receptors throughout the body being affected (or other kinds, LSD is promiscuous)? And after all, reflexes don't really go through the brain either - but those may involve the spine which is probably counted as part of the CNS.
Additional interesting information on the subject of body loads and body highs would be welcome. For example discussion of whether mescaline's considerable body effects have to do with the large mass of drug per dosage racing through your body, or the potentially incredibly heavy body load of 2C-N...
