I've noticed a lot or post and threads with people saying they don't get any effects from kava but I think it's because they're not doing it right or are expecting something different.
Kava is not something I'd consider you get "high" off of. Effects are pretty subtle for the most part but definitely noticeable and can get fairly intense with high dosage.
To get a good feeling from kava Id recommend powdered root, or even better whole root if you feel like making it into a powder yourself. It's very important that you find fresh root thats been aged a good amount of time. Find a vendor that has a good reputation for strong root.
The recommendation on the pack that I get says one or two rounded tablespoons per drink. I really can't feel anything under 3 heaping table spoons but i usually do 4-5. I put the root in a blender with 1/2 part milk, 1/2 part water and quite a bit of honey and sugar. Blend 5 minutes and strain. The stuff still doesnt taste by any means good but its bearable.
With a good dose of kava I have: no feelings of anxiety, general contentment, focused, sedated, intoxicated, muscles very relaxed (stretching feels great) and when I stand I get extremely light headed.
I think people expect to much from kava. Its not something that you take to get high and then just sit around waiting for the effects. The effects are not much like a marijuana high but can be just as relaxing. I enjoy it best after work/school to relieve stress and relax.
I hope you non believers can learn to enjoy kava
