Hello, my names Keith...
Ive had an experience like this before in my left arm, passed out on oxies last Feb and it caused some nerve damage to the inside of my arm and my first 3 fingers... Now almost a year later I have full use of my arm and hand again but my fingers are still a bit tingly and not as sensitive to touch....
Sadly tho...
The night before thanksgiving I ended up passing out on my right side and didn't move for many hours, as a result I woke up thanksgiving morning and my right arm was very swollen and numb as well as my right leg, I was very weak and couldn't move, my hearing was messed and I noticed I had pissed myself... I called my mom and they rushed me to the hospital, there things got worse, my arm started to throb and swell more, they thought it was an infection and put me on antibiotics and gave me morphine for the pain, finally the pain was too much and it felt like my fingers were going to explode, so finally I went into sugery... Now here I thought they would just put in a tube to drain what I thought was fluid from my arm, what happened was I was cut along the inside of my arm from my shoulder to my palm, across the back of my arm from the wrist to the elbow, a small cut was made on top of my shoulder and one on my tricep to relieve the pressure... It was at that time they saw how bad it was and more went wrong... My kidneys shut down and I was put on a resperator... i was in ICU for 3 days on a respirator fighting for my life apparently... after all that i was moved to the surgical floor on allot of drugs, by now Ive had a total of 2 surgeries, apparently i had one while i was in ICU, then i had my third where i was told they were going to look and clean up, then i was told they were gonna start closing, so i had surgery 4 where he cleaned and closed, then surgery 5 where it was almost completely closed and i was told the muscles that allow me to raise my hand, straighten my fingers and work my thumb were removed cuz they were dead... at that point i was told that tho it was mostly closed, they couldn't close it and id need a skin graft... surgery 6(since thanksgiving) i had them shave a piece of skin from my thigh and they used it to close a spot near my wrist on the bottom of my forearm, then finally after a month in hospital, where i had my b-day, i was released November 10th....
so heres what happened...
by me laying on my one side i was cutting off blood-flow to my arm, because of how long it was my arm swelled a bit and from lack of new blood nerves and muscle was damaged... when i woke i moved around and the serge of new blood caused the very thirsty muscles to expand, but they tried to expand farther than they could go and some started to die... now when muscle dies its filtered through the kidneys and the muscle particles are too big for the small holes in the strainer like tissue of the kidneys so thats what caused them to fail...in all, as the Doctor put it, i had a corridor blockage which when opened turned into cellulites(sp) which caused muscle to die which explains the removal of the muscle and the kidney problem... Now what doesn't make sense is, cellulites is caused by a cut of some form, I didn't have a single cut on my arm...
now I'm left with a deformed forearm, no use of my hand, i have little or no feeling in the arm except pain, which I'm on 45Mg of morphine every 12 hours and 900Mg 3 times a day of stuff for the nerve pain and my right foot and all the way up the back of my right leg is asleep cuz apparently I damaged my sciatic nerve too...
Ive been looking on-line for some answers cuz this wasn't just SNP, this was something else and this is the only thing Ive come by that deals with my situation and I was wondering if you've learned anything new, or if anyone else could help me...
thx
-Keith
