Please advise.

I understand that.
Dead93 said "you want to aim to lose a pound a week" then he said "be in a caloric deficit of no more than 300 calories".
You can't lose a pound of fat a week if you eat 300 calories below your maintenance. I was just pointing this out.

It wasn't sarcasm. The guy has 10 cycles under his belt and is 40 years old. It's a good cycle but he should lean out a bit more first and get back on regular routine and diet.

I have always been an advocate of getting down to 10% body fat, establishing a foundation of muscle and strength, and then getting on the gear and blowing up lean.

Um, yes you can.
on top of your deficit, you're going to be burning calories.

Let's say my maintenance is 2000. That means I burn 2000 a day. I gotta eat 1500 if I wanna lose a pound a week. That's a deficit of 500.
If I eat 1700, I'd be in a deficit of 300. I then burn 200 calories doing cardio. Now I'm in a deficit of 500.
"Burning calories on top of a deficit" would just put me in a bigger deficit, because I'd be burning more than my usual maintenance, by 200 cals in that case.

Weighed myself today and came in at 184lbs, didn't get my BF checked but will tomorrow at the gym. My diet is really coming together and I'm feeling its benefits. I figure 9 more lbs and I'll be where I wanna be to start the show. I'm on vacation next week so I'll have more time to train when I get thru the honey do list that is. Can't wait to get rolling!!!

Got a full physical today. Doc says on the surface I'm like a 25 yr old, waiting on the bloodwork. He says my ketones are a bit high and blood pressure is good. The EKG says I have a resting heartbeat of 58, not bad for an old timer...lol. They gave me a stress test on a treadmill and the engine still revs so pending any abnormalities with the fluids...I'm ready. 7 more f$&@ing pounds!!!!
