There's a tricky road here, full of unpopular realities:
Child molester vs. pedophile. Equivalent? Or do they just overlap?
You have to think a thousand years ago, priests or sailors, keeping a cabin boy. Were they pedophiles? Or was it convenient before birth control and fleshlights?
The other challenge: if gays are born that way, then aren't pedophiles too? Can't change that aspect of them. Shouldn't criminalize thoughts, just actions, right?
Not a lot of people line up to publicly defend them.
Personally I think Mom's new drunk boyfriend who takes advantage of the eight year-old daughter, is not a pedophile, but a child molester who will be dealt with in prison, in such a way as to save a lot of taxpayer money; is also the majority of stuff you hear about.
