Piracetam in the US

Thought this would be the most appropriate section for this question. I live in europe but I've been told that there have been recent events in regards to the FDA and piracetam and that the supply could end or become too expensive for it to be worth it. Is there any truth to this?

It's about as gray area as always. The 2nd (1st?) largest importer of Piracetam into the US was hand delivered this letter last week stating that basically Piracetam is not a dietary supplement as per the DSHEA, but a drug and thus cannot legally be sold as such. He's the only one who has been targeted so far AFAIK. There is some speculation of a drug company attempting to re-patent the compound for some other novel use but no more information on that has come to light.

Here's a link to further discussion on another forum.

wow, thanks for the heads up on piracetam! I take it pretty frequently.

Yeah, it could be that this is due to a company using the FDA for its own agenda, and will probably patent piracetam and sell it as a treatment for something (likely heart disease or alzheimers or another cardio/neuro ailment, based on the research I've perused in journals, but it could also be alcohol... it'd have to be something that would earn them A LOT of money). Either that or piracetam just landed on the FDA's radar for some other reason (ie frightened parents of kids who have huge tubs of some white powder in their rooms, or the huge quantity of money being earned off of it).
