Do you remember
That crazy summer
And the day we went
Down to the coast?

We mingled with
The holiday crowds
Spinning sugar
And falling in love

Our teenage bodies
Bursting with knowledge
And newfound freedom
That knew no bounds

Our tentative steps
Towards lives that
We were learning
To call our own

Dancing in the car park
And across the sand
Sun burnt but certain
This was our summer

And afterwards
Paul drove us home
In his old blue Torana
That always broke down

But not today,
Today we were flying,
We were seventeen
We were alive

very smashing pumpkins-esque.... i like it a lot :) its happy and carefree

I agree with your call Ant, it does bring to mind that nostalgic and yet old as all the ages feel that Smashing Pumpkins lyrics tend to have, and I really really enjoyed reading it.

Jesus, actually it makes me feel old and gray reading it, its just got that kind of self assured energy of someone remembering their youth.

Fucking tidy work in my humble opinion!

hmmm, didn't think of it in terms of lyrics before - not a bad idea tho :) thanks for all the comments - i haven't written much lately and was surprised by the ferocity (and i do mean that word) with which this piece came to me - it was almost overwhelming.....
