Hi guys,

First time posting but I have used the site extensively and your knowledge has helped me massively. I now have a problem specific to myself that I cannot find an answer to. I am currently using approx 5-6g of phenibut a day. I originally used it to come off GBL which worked a treat, GBL use sky rocketed where I was doing up to 50ml a day, one day I left it 3hrs before I re-dosed and to say the state I was in was scary, would be a massive understatement. So I sought refuge in phenibut.

I was aware from the outset that this may be out of the frying pan and into the fire. Also that tolerance to phenibut quickly builds. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go for coming off phenibut safely without the need to take time off work or medical assistance?

From what I can tell, when I haven't re-dosed the phenibut after roughly 12hrs, I become angry and impatient. Everything annoys me and I feel this horrible tenseness throughout my body. I am thinking about using diazepam to aid in the reduction, bacolfen if I can get my hands on any. Also considered pregablin.

If anyone has been in a similar predicament your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Phenibit withdrawal is HORRIFIC

My first into to Phenibut I was taking 750mg to 1g 3-4 times weekly....too much over a month I stopped cold turkey and not knowing experienced withdrawal rivaling Opioid withdrawal. Horrific

Now, I take Phenibut as it should. A sporadic tool for special social events....once a Saturday weekend or something. 2g is my usual dose.

Phenibut 2,000mg orally....3 hour onset / peak plasma levels. Lasts 10h + with a pleasant afterglow the next day. Amazing for adding to a cocktail of opioid and especially a dopaminergic stimulant,

Pregabalin 150/300/450mg can be taken more often than Phenibut with a slow gradual reduction to minimize uncomfortable side effects

For you.....low dose Gabapentin 300 X 3 or Pregabalin 150 × 2 daily or maybe a Clonidine 0.1mg tablet daily (half in morning, half before bed)

Exactly my experience to a T, but I used valium and beer for the taper.

Yeah, phenibut builds a tolerance frighteningly fast. If I took more than 1g a few days in a row, it stopped working. Definitely taper. Just accept the fact that you won't 'feel' it, but it will still prevent/lessen the withdrawals.

Cheers for all your responses. I have managed to stockpile pregablin now and tested it out at the weekend. I had to take 450mg of pregablin once withdrawal had fully kicked in, and emptied the tablets into a drink to speed up the process. As soon as it began to do its thing the withdrawal went away and I didn't need any phenibut for the remainder of the night.

That was my test run, I know my starting level now and can plan over the course of a few days how best to taper the pregablin.

Note to anyone thinking about phenibut usage, do not underestimate this drug. The withdrawal is hideous.

Scary. I have an OZ of phenibut in the cupboard that I forgot about because I was getting gnarly migraines when I received it so didn't want to take anything to trigger one.

Will have to give it a proper shot at my next occasion or friend outing

A good rule of thumb for tapering phenibut is to drop your dose 10% every week. I've done it before in the past with success. Phenibut withdrawal sucks, the best method is a slow taper. Baclofen has also been used to medically taper people off of phenibut

Phenibut is a GABA-B agonist. This means substances like:

  • Benzodiazepines: Diazepam, Clonazepam, Temazepam, Lorazepam, Alprazolam, Bromazepam
  • Z-Drugs: Pagoclone, Zopiclone, Zolpidem
  • Quinazolinone: Methaqualone (Quaalude), Mephenaqualone (RC-Quaalude)
  • Alcohol
  • Barbiturates
don't work, as they mainly target the GABA-A (Alpha) sector and its sub-receptors. A drug that targets GABA-B (Beta) is actually GHB and GBL, exactly as you mentioned. I don't recommend taking gabapentinoids because they don't bind to GABA in general and can make you insanely dependent in just a couple of days, leading to even more problems.

I also experienced Phenibut withdrawal. You have to lower your dose; that's by far the best option in my opinion. When you have problems, I can recommend CBD, and if it's really bad, 10mg of Diazepam or 1mg of Clonazepam. But only if you can control yourself and don't start taking it every day. The maximum is twice a week, with at least a four-day break between doses. Ashwagandha is also highly effective; it has mild muscle relaxation, anxiety suppression, depression reduction, motivation and focus enhancements, and subtle hypnotic effects.

Conclusion: Lower the dose and take CBD, as well as Ashwagandha, to reduce your symptoms.
Warning: Low dosage of benzos is not recommended, only when you have suicidal thoughts is it an option! Only in emergency cases!

Stay safe, Mana0909

Cheers mate. Never heard of ashwagandha. I managed to come off the phenibut completely by starting with 450mg of pregabs. Which was bizzare because I could feel like an internal war going on inside my body where the withdrawal battled against the pregabs.

My next dose of pregablin after 12hrs was 300mg. Following day 150mg x 3 times.

Third day 50mg x 3 times in a day. And by the fourth day I was completely off the phenibut and managed to stop pregablin with no side effects.

This was just my personal experience. Thank you for all of your help everyone who contributed.
