Hey everybody... I know there are other phenibut thread, but I can not seem to get a solid answer. Heres a quick rundown of my story- I am a recovering heroin and benzo addict. I discovered gabapentin and pregabalin, and immediately feel in love with the effects. After some research, I discovered phenibut, which I found to be very similar to high doses of lyrica and neurontin. So anyways the past few months I have been taking very high does of phenibut everyday. Doses up to 20 grams. I've noticed in the morning that I wake up with EXTREME anxiety. Bad enough to wear I can't get anything done if I don't take more. I am a college student and do landscaping for a living. Can't afford a week of withdrawal. Either way, I know this girl who works at a hospital who has been getting me neurontin. Thinking of getting a good amount stocked up and getting off this terrible shit.

So my question is, does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can do to get off of this shit, and if gabapentin is a good drug to use.

It sounds like switching between GABAergic drugs would only compound the problem. Why not do a home taper with Phenibut? It is legal, widely available and inexpensive- all you'd have to do is invest in a mg scale and do a slow taper.

I would go to any nutrition store and pick yourself up some GABA. Take half of a standard dose, maybe 500 MG or so of GABA and mix it with half your dose of Phenibut, then gradually increase the GABA and decrease the Phenibut. That's exactly how I was able to drop using the Phenibut and then I didn't have to take the GABA anymore. I still do take it from time to time when my anxiety kicks in. Give it a shot if you'd like, it was a good recipe for me.

ouch that is alot of phenibut! Poor kidneys and body! Phenibut withdrawal is very real and quite nasty...but then again so is gabapentin and pregabalin withdrawal! I'm sorry. I would follow Tchorts advice, that is how many get off phenibut, slow and steady. I switched to baclofen ( a much more potent and selective GABA-B agonist) and then slowly tapered off. Baclofen is much easier on the body and doesnt have the reward of high dose phenibut. It too has nasty withdrawal symptoms but it can titrated down fairly painlessly. I found 80mg of baclofen to substitute for 3.5 grams of phenibut, but oh so much easier on the body. It is a prescription drug but it is not a controlled substance and thus can be sourced fairly easily. Taper taper taper! good luck.

cheers
edit- and GABA may help you but for most, myself included, its inability to cross the blood brain barrier left it with no effects whatsoever.

Well I think you should get as much neurotonin or pregabalin you can get and taper off the phenibut.

Don't stop it cold turkey. It is primarily a GABA B agonist AFAIK. It would be very unpleasant at the doses you're talking about.

2 weeks worth of benzos might be good after you taper down and are ready to jump off. Only 2 weeks then start loading on the neurotonin about 3 days before you stop the benzos. I find pregabalin better myself. If there is a w/d syndrome from pregabalin it is very mild because I have stopped them periodically cold turkey and never noticed. Maybe because I've been through H w/d that there is no compaison. I've also been through benzo w/d as well. Suceed at both. I still use both from time to time but very sparingly now with big breaks. Benzo w/d is worse IMO and I think phenibut is similar at huge doses. It's related chemically to Baclefen.

I tapered using Lyrica (pregabalin). Started with 100mg x 2/day, then every 3-4 days dropped the dose by 25mg on each dose. Took 2 weeks but didn't have any withdrawals.

The Lyrica definitely takes away the withdrawal symptoms.
