Hi guys,
OK, I've googled and drawn a blank. I've checked PIHKAL. I used the fuckin' search engine etc. Also, I tried to find the most appropriate thread for this question, and this is it.
My question is:
I recently found a natural antidepressant/mood-elevating supplement which, amongst other ingredients, contains phenethylamine and a mild maoi.
part of the blurb on this product states (quote):
Phenylethylamine (PEA) 40mg - extracted from the Cocoa bean. PEA is a phenylethylamine which facilitates feelings of love and contentment in the limbic system of the brain (the limbic system is part of the brain that controls mood).
Passionflower extract (Passiflora incarnata) 300mg - a natural monoamine oxidase inhibitor that prevent the premature break-down of PEA. Also produces a natural anti-anxiety effect by stimulating the brain’s GABA receptors.
Shulgin did some tests on the activity of straight PEA and came to the conclusion: no effects. But I presume that he meant no immediate effects. He never mentioned any tests using PEA over an extended period of time.
As this is the first time I've seen PEA plus an MAOI in a supplement, I'm curious to find out if PEA truly does or doesn't have a physiological effect (antodepressant, mood-brightening, or otherwise).
Does anyone have any links, research or info on this?
Peace,
Neo
