Hi. I was wondering if someone could give me some information on Phenazepam as I have no idea what this drug is. I've been doing some research but can't find the answer im looking for.

Someone very close to me had 7mgs on Tuesday night. It is now Friday and they are still dopey, slurring speech and have been sleeping for the better part of the past 3 days. I'm worried about permanent brain damage as these effects have only slightly improved over the past 72 hours, although they are eating and drinking now. This happened to the 3 other people they were with aswell and effects are still the same with them.

Any information would be great.
Thanks

the half life is 24 or 36 hours? cant remember exactly but its extremely high
and its active at a tiny dose 7mg is alot
they should be fine after a few days.

The half life is around 60 hours and as mentioned above 7mg is a large dose, especially for people without a tolerance.

Fortunately it is very hard to OD on benzos alone and there won't be any permanent brain damage. They should improve with each day, just make sure nobody takes anymore as it impairs your judgement and could lead to trouble.

Remember is the half life is say 60hours then it doesn't mean in 120hours they will be clean. If they took 7mg then at

60hours they will have 3.5mg.
120hours they will have 1.75mg.
180hours they will have 0.875

An average phenazepam dosage is 0.5 mg 2-3 times daily. The maximum daily dosage must not exceed 10 mg.

So at 120hours (5days) they will still be a reasonably active amount in their system. Im pretty amature when it comes to this kinda stuff so I would take everything I just said with a grain of salt untill someone who is a bit more on it like phasedancer can help you out a bit further.

Im guessing they were quite wasted on day one? Make sure they don't drink on it, even one beer from experience can lead to total memory loss and skateing through traffic the wrong way on a major road. One beer leads to another.

Just a bit of a guess but they should be fine after say a week. Keep us posted.

All 4 of them have little recollection of the first 24 hours. They're all to dopey and uncooridinated to do anything but lye down and try and sleep it off. Pretty scary to watch. I never thought such a small dose of a drug would still be so harsh this long after consuming. Im unfamilier with most RC's though.

Thanks a heap for the information static mind :)

Now 130 hours after consumption and they are getting better. Slightly dopey, slighty uncordinated and a little bit of speech slur but a big improvement from Friday. Once again thanks for the information.

Don't forget, the metabolites are also likely to be active, which as with the case of diazepam, extends the overall duration considerably. Interesting that phenazepam is metabolised differently in man to at least some animals. Cats, dogs and rats, produce 3-OH-phenazepam as a main metabolite, but no studies have found it in man. Also, the half life is far lower in animals that produce the 3-OH metabolite (which is active btw).

The half-life of phenazepam was about 60 h in man, 13.72 +/- 2.09 h in the cat, 6.35 +/- 2.32 h in the dog and 7.49 +/- 1.88 h in the rat (beta-half-life)

Eur J Drug Metab Pharmacokinet. 1982;7(3):191-6.
Species differences in phenazepam kinetics and metabolism.

Good to hear your friends are recovering ok matt414

Read my other thread on what happened to my friend.

It's been well over a week now and he's still not right.

Anyone know the affects Phenazepam has on cats!?

I have a terrible suspicion that my cat may have come into contact with some of this fucking poison.

lol poison.

Treat things with respect and they don't need to be considered poisons.

Such strong medicines need to be treated with respect (not that i did so, but im fine, and used epic large doses - a gram over the course of a few days). I wouldn't worry, your friend is likely just intolerant - and will be right with the proper rest.

Contact a vet ASAP, print out all info you can find on phenazepam and take it with you when you go to see them. I hope your kitty is okay!
