Hey guys, well its late where I am, but Im really curious about this:

One of my perscriptions bottles say 'Refill 1 times until 1/11/13'
It was for a months supply, but my question is can I just go in
where I fill perscriptions and simply request a refill only a week
later?

And do I need to bring the bottle with me or will it be in they'r system?

Appreciate the help!

Ummm, Darth...What's the scrip for and where you at? Need some more info to at least try to answer your question. May just end up having to ask at the pharmacy.

Just saw that you are on the capital planet of the Galactic Republic, I'd say a refill won't be a problem;)

The date if 1/11/13 of your refill simply indicates that an RX refill is only good for six months from original prescription date, so I am guessing you got your meds on 7/13/12.

And no, you can't go a week later and refill your medication. I believe the earliest date allowed on regular rx's is 24+ days and narcotics (CIII-CII) at 27+ days although this may vary depending on country and insurance plan.

I live in the northwest, washington to be exact. The perscription is for 20 lorazepam .5s
Doc switched me to these to try but the dose is to small and wont see him again for a month.
I want to refill next friday when I get some other meds refilled since Im there anyway and its far.

Oh! and I dont have insurance, I always have to pay straight up

It seems to me that its up to the discretion of the pharmacist most of the time? But if i have a
refill whose to say when I can get it or not get it!

Thanks for the help!

It is definitely not up to the discretion of the pharmacist. There are specific guidelines for controlled substances, and ativan absolutely falls into that category. Depending on the dosing instructions and quantity given, the pharmacy loads your original rx for a certain # days worth supply. You need to be in the 80% range of scripted use to refill a controlled substance.

So your saying the 80% range is a law? So Id have to be at least 24 out of the 30 days to get it refilled for a fact?

I kinda think this falls under our guideline:
4) NO LEGAL QUESTIONS
If you have legal questions about filling scripts or drug laws of certain countries, we can't help you. These laws vary widely from place to pace, making it next to impossible for us to give you an accurate or valuable answer. Seek legal counsel and if appropriate, post in a regional forum.

This type of question will usually just generate a lot of speculation since the rules and laws vary so much from place to place, situation to situation. The best thing to do would be to just wait until your pharmacy opens and then call them and ask what the soonest date you can come in for your refill is.

I think when it says "Refill 1 times until 1/11/13" it means that 1/11/13 must just be the date at which the prescription expires and is no longer valid (even if you hadn't had it filled by that date). In the US a prescription may only be refilled the number of times the doctor specifies up to a maximum five times within six months after the date on which the prescription was issued.

This question comes up a lot, so I will explain why it is so difficult to answer. When you can get a refill is dependent on what drug the prescription is for, the country and state that you live in, your doctor's instructions on the prescription, the pharmacist's judgement and the condition you are prescribed the drug for. In the US you can't get any refills on a prescription for a Schedule II drug. Schedule III and IV controlled substances may be refilled if authorized on the prescription. The pharmacist can not refill the prescription if the patient should have more than a seven day supply of the drug left from any previously dispensed prescription. Different states have different laws regarding when an Rx can be re-filled, in some you can't refill it until the date that your last fill should be completely gone, some have a limit on the number of days early you can fill it, some have a yearly limit (so if you get it 3 days early one time, you may only have 4 early days left for the rest of the year). Depends on the state (and the drug). Some pharmacies and doctors have their own policies.

It is my understanding that in Washington state for most controlled drugs you can generally not get a refill early at all except under very unusual circumstances, meaning if your fill was for 30 days, you have to wait until the 31st day to get a refill. With most non-controlled drugs you should be able to get a refill 7 days or less before it is due (aside from if insurance is paying for it) or when you are 75% of the way through your last fill (whichever is later). But check with your pharmacy to be sure about your particular circumstances.

Your prescription will be in the pharmacy's system, there should be no need to bring the bottle in when you go to pick up the refill.

I'm going to close this. Please PM me if you have any questions.
