Jesus. Don't direct your seemingly always bad mood out on me.

Yes, people are productive at all times during the day. I conceded that point (or maybe, I didn't let me check the 3 times you quoted me in different posts to check). Oh, I didn't, sorry. Thought it was implied by my leaving the 10% out in my initial post.

I'm merely suggesting the "line" is where most people are awake and up during a weekday. How else would we be able to make laws? You really think people should only be able to mow their lawns in the evening hours when "everyone" is awake? Well, everyone is *not* awake during that time. I say this while my boyfriend sleeps in the next room because he works throughout the early morning - midday hours. So if someone mowed their lawn right now he would be woken up (though he wouldn't complain because he understands people need to mow *sometime* when it's light out). There is no way to accommodate every person's schedule.

Yes, it's unfortunate that outside work that is noisy will INEVITABLY wake *someone* up due to the fact that everyone has a different schedule. I was merely suggesting that this type of activity be limited to the time the majority of people are working.

You and almost everyone else wants the people who works past 5 PM to be at their jobs so they can serve you, yet you then ridicule the notion of someone wanting to sleep past 9 AM and imply that it is the person's fault for being awakened because he should already be awake and productive?

I'm sorry this shit is hilarious. You let your rage take your so-called amazing logic way off the deep end. Where the fuck did I 'ridicule' you for wanting to sleep past 9 am or say it was your fault? Stop putting words in my mouth. Does your waking up have to be someone's fault? It's just something that happens. No way to please everyone in the world. I was sheerly trying to make an argument based off of reality and not one person's personal feelings like you have.

Last time I disagree with you, your Excellency.

pet peeve:

Motorcycle helmets with fake mohawks! the next best thing to a popped collar...well..if you're a douche bag that is 8)

I am almost certain that if I blasted Music at 7 AM and woke people up, I would be cited for a noice violation. I think it is outrageous that they would do this.

Did you at LEAST tell your roommate that what he did was unacceptable and that it totally ruined your entire day so he HOPEFULLY wont do it again in the future and be more considerate? Or did you come to bluelight and post it here in this thread first? 8)

Better tell him what you think man. Before he does it again and you bust an artery from all the anger.

it wasn't his roommate, it was his beighbor.

and 9am is an acceptable time to be doing yardwork. if it wakes you, run a fan for white noise, but don't expect work crews or individuals to start the day later because you operate on an untraditional schedule. if you know you have a long drive ahead, plan your sleep accordingly. or stay off the road if that's not possible. ffs, you aren't the sun.

Rofl fjones, such terrible rage!

As I understand council laws, here in australia so cool your precious heels, that after 9am council works, road works, water works, etc and yes people mowing their lawns and hedges, are allowed to go ahead because it is *note* assumed, that after 9am people are at work. As well, to my knowledge most workplaces begin work at 9am. I know I certainly do.

You sir are the exception, obviously.

So you know, your neighbour is technically allowed to do what he pleases at 9am, and if it wakes you, well I suggest moving house. Again. Though, my reference may be irrelevant as I have no idea how America works, but I am still going to assume most businesses start at 9am, and 9am would be the benchmark that your neighbour might think it is OK to make noise. Is he wrong? Should he wait until 12pm, just to make sure that everyone who wants to sleep in, has the chance? Stupid logic.

Maybe he had things to do after that, maybe 9am was the only chance that day he would have gotten to 'make noise'.

You seem to walk around as if the world owes you peace and quiet and to open doors for you, and step out of your way...?

If you honestly have a huge deal with him doing that, go over, talk to him like an adult and ask him politely to maybe next time wait another hour or two before making noise, as you do not wake before 9am. :)

man fjones that sucks you had to drive really far on little sleep. you should try speeding like 15 or 20 miles over the limit so you can get off the road faster before falling asleep at the wheel.

My apologies.

I probably misunderstood you (possibly because of my exhaustion). I guess I interpreted your mention of people being awake and productive by 9 AM as your saying, "Quit complaining, you should be awak and productive by 9 AM anyway." It seems you were not saying that, so I apologize.

I would try to mow in the evening, because I think more peopel are asleep at 9 AM than in the evening. I didn't say everyone else should mow in the evening, though I did say that it would be nice if people would give a bit of a window for people who might sleep a bit later than "normal." If people typically wake at 9 AM, then by mowing after 11 that give a window of plus or minus two hours. It decreases the chances of inconveniencing anyone.

I agree that at any time of a day there is a chance that someoen can be awakened by something. There isn't really any way to avoid that.

My roommate didn't do anything. I think there might be a mix-up. The person making the noise was my neighbor.

sorry, i still dont buy it. I have worked second or third shift for most of my adult life, and having people rearrange their landscaping from a cool morning, or the hottest part of the say (between 10 and 2) is ridiculous.

First of all, there are noise laws, and 9 AM is considered an acceptable time to do something noisey in all places that I know of.

Second, if an edger woke you, then you weren't very sleepy to begin with. Sorry.

Third, coffee

Fourth if this is what peeves you, consider yourself lucky, because you could be infected by parasites, your girlfirend could cheat on you with your best friend, or you could develop a reputation on an online community as a crazy retard. Now those are some peeves.

I don't know if you're joking or not, but either, it isn't really a matter to joke about. If your comment was meant to be light-hearted and playful, I apologize, but this is a real problem that I am trying to deal with. I have a horrible time sleeping and haven't slept well in weeks. I often have insomnia and restless sleep.

I actually do avoid driving long distances if possible, because I fear I may become drowsy at the wheel. I have gone to the doctor about it because sometimes I am overcome with fatigue while driving. He gave me provigil, which seems to help but has some undesirable side effects.

What does everyone else do here when facing a long drive without enough sleep for whatever reason? Does anyone have any useful input? I realize that flaming me is fun for everyone, and I am happy to give people something to do, but I wonder if anyone might offer some advice as well.

The 'more people are asleep at 9 than in the evening' idea is a fair point. However, as someone already alluded to a lot of people don't necessarily have the luxury of picking when they do their yard work based on when less people are sleeping.

? Does anyone have any useful input?

I make sure I always go to bed early before a long drive the next day. Otherwise I just feel fucked. That or coffee/tea. But since you have insomnia, and hate coffee, you're fucked :D

The laws here are probably the same.

Folks, I think we are losing sight of something. This is the PET peeves thread. The definition of a pet peeve is something that bothers an individual, not somehting that is a univesal peeve. That is why it is called a "pet" peeve and not a "universal" peeve.

I was facing a long drive and I got almost no sleep and that is very frustrating to me, regardless of whether the neighbor was right or wrong.

The neighbor was not doing anything wrong by mowing or edging at 9 AM. That does NOT reduce my frustration with the fact that I cannot get a good night's sleep because I am on a different schedule than others.

This is a fair point. Look, this morning I was VERY tired, Very upset, and very frustrated, and as a result, I probably directed anger at my neighbor that should be directed at the situation in general. It is the situation I was angry and frustrated about, it was nothing against my neighbor. He is probably a nice guy. Obviously he wasn't trying to wake or upset me.

I am a VERY light sleeper and I seem to have some sleep issues that I am trying to work on. It is frustrating because I am afraid to drive more than half an hour. I have even been overcome by fatigue on a 20 minute drive.

I take ambien occasionally when I KNOW I need to get some sleep. I took some this night in question, but I still was awakened and could nto fall back asleep.

If you can, stop and get out of the car to stretch your legs a bit occasionally. I also like to switch up the music some and opening the windows to get fresh air in helps.
