I'm on 6mg of perphemazine. I cut back on it and had violent thoughts and thought I would act o. Them. Never felt this way till I took antipsychotics. So I can t get off it but yet being on it I have nonstop violent thoughts. Any ideas?

You got the violent thoughts after you cut back on your dose of Perphenazine? Are you sure it's not a symptom of withdrawal due to the lowered dose? Most anti-psychotics typical and atypical can cause some type of withdrawal and these can include racing thoughts and the return of the condition the anti-psychotic was treating with a vengeance. Perphenazine has to be tapered slowly as not only can your original symptoms come back with interest but as Perphenazine is a rather potent anti-emetic due to it's Dopamine and Serotonin antagonism as well as it's strong anti-cholinergic effects stopping it suddenly or tapering too fast can cause severe nausea and vomiting as well. One of the uses of Perphenazine is to control severe nausea and vomiting in much the same way Prochlorperazine (Stemetil, Compazine) and Chlorpromazine (Thorazine aka ye ol Largactil) are used for this purpose.

Smoking perphenazine?

Hm. Why not. Is it a base form? Powder in gels? While I've never heard of smoking antipsychotics, it surely can be done.

As for discontinuing an antipsychotic, it can raise issues quickly, better take your time to do a proper taper. Often a lifetime condition, alas.

edit: well I don't condone smoking your antipsychotic treatment. It can only be detrimental to your health.

Are you asking if smoking meth could alleviate the nonstop violent thoughts?

I think it would most likely make it worse. Who knows though, you could be a special case.

Right or if u think it would make it worse?

Of course Meth would make it worse. Amphetamines tend to increase aggression so no doubt it would make your violent thoughts even worse. Also as Perphenazine is a fairly strong D2 antagonist it would probably block most of the effects of Meth.

Really though if you need to be on Perphenazine or any anti-psychotic you shouldn't be doing meth.

Well I smoked for years and it didnt but I wasn't psychotic 3 years ago. Will it make me act on it?

It could very well make you act out. What are you on the Perphenazine for anyway? What is your official diagnoses? Amphetamines and especially Methamphetamine are notorious for triggering psychotic episodes even in people with no mental illness. In people with mental illness avoiding Meth altogether is a good idea as it will only make you far worse.

jesus christ

please don't smoke meth OP that is like the worst thing you could possibly do, whatever the reason you are being treated with neuroleptics

talk to your psychiatrist about wanting to get off them or something, don't go unsupervised

Well I smoked method for sever years and a lot of it. Never had any issues
Then I took ability for ocd and went psychotic. My diagnosis is schizoaffective

I'm sure the internet could provide you with the answer as to whether or not it's a high dose. As for smoking meth...neurotic is right: that's probably literally the worst thing you could do to yourself. I don't know where you live, but if it's in the US, they love to send people to prison for drugs or drug-induced acts of violence. It's true that you have a psychiatric diagnoses, but it's also largely in your control when it comes to doing meth or not. I would highly suggest that you:

1) stay the hell far away from any stimulant and any hallucinogen
2) take the damned meds until you talk to your doctor at the dose that he/she prescribed
3) talk to the doctor about why you don't want to take it (or why you're reducing it) in a completely honest manner, and don't forget to tell him about your meth cravings; if you want them to help you, you must be as open as is humanly possible
4) discuss with your doctor a possible alternative treatment plan that makes both of you as happy overall as is possible
5) follow the plan that you guys come up with

No one knows if you'll act on the impulse if you smoke meth. We aren't magicians. But whatever you do, even if you decide to forego my neat little plan, know that stimulants are poison for you right now (beyond neurotoxicity, I mean to the extent that if it makes you psycho, your life could literally be ruined).

People who have psychotic disorders and who use hallucinogens make their symptoms worse; that's a no-brainer. People who have psychotic disorders and who use stimulants generally make their symptoms worse - there are reports of people with schizophrenia occasionally being prescribed small amounts of stimulants to deal with negative/cognitive aspect of the disease, but it's not only playing with fire, as the say, but their doses are much much smaller and their method of ingestion much safer (oral) than what your average meth-smoker goes through. I mean a maximum of 60mg amphetamine a day orally, whereas blowing through 100mg of high-purity meth is probably something you did routinely in the past. Keep in mind, too, that meth is at least twice as potent by weight than amphetamine, and that furthermore amphetamine hurts the brain and heart much less than does meth. I'm rambling.

This is the last time (I promise): DON'T DO IT.
