Percocet / Tylenol 3 Question

ok, my knees have been absolutely killing me but i dont want to run out of my percocet (5mg) as quick as i am running through them. I have about (40) Tylenol 3 remaining as well, but they are just worthless IMO...

now for the questions...

1) I posted on a different topic about this, and it seems to follow one person's rule - its ok that i take another (2) Percocet a couple hours after initially taking 2 pills correct? i know its not the max dose of APAP, but i also know you shouldnt take more than a certain amount in one "sitting" - so since 11:30 EST ive taken (4) Percocet - i believe thats 20 mg Oxy, 1300 APAP..

this one im more concerned about because i kind of just want to know if im going to be numb or throwing up

2) What is your opinion on taking (1) Percocet and (1) Tylenol 3 to kind of mix and match the effects, as well as give pain relief?

You really shouldn't consume more than 2g APAP in one sitting.. so another 2 Percocets will take you up to 1950mgs which is okay. The problem with taking a bigger dose in a short space of time for analgesia is you will then not have much left for the rest of the day seeing as 4g is the maximum dose in 24 hours.

Tylenol 3 has 30mgs codeine in, right? 5mg oxycodone = around 50mg codeine. You can mix and match if you like but as a general rule it is best to stick to one type of opioid - whichever you find to be more effective for your pain. How much APAP is in a Tylenol 3? (Sorry, from the UK, we don't have that here!)

There are 300 mg of APAP in each Tylenol 3 - im thinking the 'stick with one opioid' thing applies to one sitting. but what about taking (1) Percocet then about 2 - 4 hours later taking (1) or (2) Tylenol 3 to keep the pain down.

it sucks because its either that the Tylenol 3 by-itself is completely useless, and im running through too much Percocet because it actually does its pain-relieving job..

i have a question, im on 2x5mg percosets, not working for a ankle fracture, what if i were to add 1 or 2 t3s, that were cold water extracted?

I have fortunately never had to use opiates for a throbbing injury so I can't say much but you should ask your doctor for advice.

Overdosing on opiates can be a risky business, learning to deal with the pain without them would be recommended.

Ever heard of the saying "save your painkillers for when you feel better?" xD

I'm sincerely sorry to hear you are in pain from a fractured ankle (ouch).

Are you a heavy drinker?

If not, combining 2 pills of Percocet with 1 Tylenol #3 is below that maximum recommended dosage of 1000mg of Acetaminophen (also known as Paracetamol).

On top of that, adding a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) such as Ibuprofen (Advil) or Naproxen (Aleve) is a good idea because it will reduce the inflammation caused by your body's natural response to such an injury. That is, assuming you don't have any conditions or Rx meds which contraindicate the use of a NSAID.

For example, the Beta Blocker drug Propranolol (sometimes used for high blood pressure) contraindicates the use of NSAIDs because the effect of the drug may be diminished.
