Help Please! Oxy and Ambien combo

I just had a semi complicated surgery on my shoulder and got released from the hospital yesterday. Doctor prescribed me watson 932 percocets (10/325) and told me to take 1 every 4-6 hours and I had a really rough night trying to sleep last night. I just took 3 and I'm feeling pretty loopy with little to no pain. My mom gave me a couple 10mg Ambiens to help me sleep after I told her about it.

I rarely take opiates but when I do I have a terrible time getting to sleep. My question is, am I okay to take an Ambien in an hour or two?

From my experience of being prescribed the two together for years, you're fine to mix them in moderation. I wouldn't recommend going higher than 3-4 of the 10/325s and 1 of the Ambiens at a time though. You can go higher than that, but then you're getting into recreational territory. And I would NOT recommend continued use of Ambien as you can run into amnesia issues. For constant and/or chronic pain, I used 1-2 of the 10/325s to start the day's dosage, then topped up with 1 every 2-3 hours. If you wait 4-6 hours, you might be in pain again before your next dose.

Also, I'd try taking your last dosage of opiates at least 1-1.5 hours before intending to be asleep. The initial rush does make it hard to nod out.

Z-drugs ime tend to be safer then classic benzos when mixed with opiates, maybe due to a much more selective receptor subtype activity (i dont have any hard evidence, im just brainstorming.lol).
I would leave a couple of hours between dosing the oxy and ambien though. Just to be sure that youve reached the peak of the oxys effects or it could take you by surprise and lead to feeling too sedated. At your stated doses though i dont think theres any great danger to yourself.
Oh yeah, after taking the ambien, put ALL of the meds away in a different room from the one you sleep in (or even better with someone you trust) because Z-drugs are notorious for causing bad judgement and compulsive redosing.
