Hello,

Longtime reader...first time poster here. Earlier this evening I took two Percocet 10/325s. This was my first experience with oxycodone. I am a big guy (6'1" and 250 pounds) so 20mg seemed to be a reasonable dose for a first time recreational session.

I had an enjoyable high for a while, but now I'm a little worried. My breathing has been relatively shallow and forced for a while now, and as I've been here laying in bed watching TV, I've found myself nodding off for a few moments before waking feeling the need to take a deep breath. It's kind of startling. :( While fully awake (i.e. not lying down) it's not difficult to breathe. I just notice the act of breathing more than I would otherwise.

I want to go to sleep but I'm just looking for a little reassurance that I'm worrying about nothing. I had plenty of food in my stomach when I took the Percocets, and I'm not feeling particularly nauseous, but not particularly great either.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and I hope I posted this in the correct forum.

Don't ever think there's such thing as a dumb question about drug usage, you did the right thing by joining and posting, even if the answer was just for your own reassurance. With that being said, with the dose you took you should be ok as far bad side effects go, but you do need to be careful, especially being new to oxycodone. Oxycodone absolutely can cause respiratory depression and even failure at high does, now keep in mind the meaning of "high dose" will change as you take them more often. If it will make you feel better you ought to just get up and watch TV for a bit and eat you something and just let yourself doze off when your body is relaxed and tired enough to do so. Hope this helped some. ;)

20mg is a lot for a first timer. I would try to stay awake for a while, but if you're noding off, the low oxygen content of your blood should cause the gasp reflex to kick in.

Thank you....I actually did eat some cereal an hour or so ago. The respiratory issues which you mentioned are my biggest concern.

I just decided to get up and brush my teeth, use the restroom etc. I'm feeling refreshed and a little better. Breathing seems to be less noticeable as time goes on.

I guess I'll try to keep watching TV for a bit. But now that you mention it....that's kinda what I felt as I awoke from nodding off for a bit - the feeling of a slight gasp. That's what made me nervous.

It's been about 4 hours now since I took them. I need to get to sleep soon as I do have a few things to do in the morning, but I can try to stay awake for a bit longer.

Well the good news is that the upper limit of Oxycodone's half-life is around 4 hours so the effects should've have peaked out by now ;)

For him that might be good news. But for me it would be better news if it was 6 hours ;)

OT: You should be fine. Just stay awake another hour an hit the sack. I once took 5x5mg Endone with no tolerance. I was defiantly high but didn't focus on breathing. Just try forget about your breathing an let your body do it naturally.

Oh no no no no thats not a good thing for me at all I just wanted to cheer up the OP :P Oxy's my DOC. But yeah outerspace, like tommy says, if you just relax and don't think about it so much you'll be fine. And speaking from my job experience, in all honesty, if you were gonna die, it would've happened the first time you passed out so..maybe that eases your nerves some ?

Awesome advice in here DelRi0!! OP, you're a pretty big guy, and even for someone new to oxycodone that isn't a high dose. However, if you feel your breathing isn't quite right, it's definitely worth it to force yourself awake for another hour or so, mostly for peace of mind, but also just to be 100% sure. And DelRi0 was right, it's better that you posted this when you weren't sure what to do to get the opinions of people with more experience, hopefully you have found it reassuring.

Outerspace I'm assuming you finally got some rest, but check back in with us in the morning, let us know how you're doing, we take care of our own! ;)

At 6 hours you should be more than okay to sleep. When prescribed they say take every 4-6 hours as needed for pain. If it's been 4 hours since you took them if you can stay up another 2 hours then all should be fine. If it was me I'd be asleep already. Remember no question is stupid, and safety first. Good luck and I hope you enjoyed yourself!

Thanks for all your advice. I'm feeling a little odd today, but overall it was an interesting experience, and I am OK. :)

Not something I see myself repeating really...it wasn't for me.
