A little background about what's been going on with me, it seems that I either have lupus or rheumatoid arthritis. No diagnosis yet, but I have been in severely debilitating pain to the point where I can't sleep and am not capable to do the things I need to get done.
Anywho, Friday night was so bad I didn't sleep and Saturday I couldn't take it anymore. I went to a walk in emergency care place and they rx me percocet 5-325mg. That's a small dose from my experience and knowledge. So since Saturday. I've been taking between 15-30mgs depending on how bad the pain is.
Now my concern is, I am running low. I only have four left. On Friday, its my sons birthday and were going to the zoo meaning lots of walking and physical movement which is difficult and painful. I know for a fact I will not have enough if any percs left by Friday.. anyway, I have heard of suboxone used in pain management. Will I even feel the suboxone after using the percs the last five days or so?
What is your opinion on what I can or should do?
I really want to be able to enjoy my sons bday painfree and in high spirits...

You will definitely feel the sub, just be sure to wait 24 hours after your last dose of oxy to avoid any chance of throwing your self in w/d. While subs arent as good for pain as a full agonist would be, its still better than nothing and can be very potent. 2mgs is equal to about 30mgs of oxy to a first time user IME, so start low.

Be careful with the bupe, it will kick your ass if you arent ready for it and the day you actually wanted to be pain free and fun will be a nightmare. So, wake up early, like a few hours before you plan on leaving and take 1-2 mg of bupe. If you are gonna feel the effects you should feel them within the hour, so after an hour see where your at. If you still are not getting enough relief, try another 1-2 mg. At that point id stop right there.

I used to take 24 mg of bupe a day and it didnt work for me. So now I take 120 mg of methadone a day and it works slightly better.

I have a MONSTER IV heroin habit though so dont try to pull anything like that.

Put as much time between when the party is and your last dose. And start low.

Take a.5mg sublingual dose. Wait 1.5 hours(that's how long it take to work), if you really need more, take another .5mg. Don't exceed 2mg unless you want to be puking everywhere. Seriously, this stuff will catch up with you. You might feel nice for the first 2 hours, but then you'll be sick having a bad time.

Honestly, I really wouldn't recommend this for a pain killer unless completely opiate naive for an acute situation. If it's all you have and can get, then by all means, use it this one time only. But, if you're going to a doc to get it just explain your situation (not that you've been self-medicating tho). so you have something on hand to take for pain when needed.
Don't forget NASIDS, alieve helps some people w/ arthritis, but everyone is different.

@flabu. 24mg of bupe. Unless you were doing half an ounce/day, that was way too much.

Thank you all so much. I really appreciate it.
I've taken sub before many times. Usually once maybe twice a week after I finish my school week to relax and have fun.. usually prolly take about a mg.
I really hope this works out and that I soon find a doc to rx me something
I actually heard today on tv doctors talking about methadone in pain management of autoimmune diseases... any opinions?

If your going to take suboxone with that tolerance, I would not start above .5mg. Buprenorphine (the active ingredient in suboxone) is long lasting and super potent. If you dose too high, not only will you get insanely high and puke for hours on end, but it will persist much longer than your average opiate.

I think methadone would be a better pain medication if you had to choose between the two, though I would think oxycodone would still be more effective in the long run

^Second. Bupe is a weird drug.
Targeting an effective analgesic dose is tuff. Cause it's so slow acting, you can take it, feel nothing for 45 min, feel good for the next 2 hours, then be up all night puking. Not to mention induction, using so you can chip, or even finding the right maintenance dose.

But, if you this is your only option, and you've taken before, then you'll be ok. However, if you're really worried about pain management, you're really gonna want to visit a PM doc. If you start taking bupe everyday simply for pain management, you're open a whole lot more doors than you realize. NOt to mention, after you're acclimated to it, it really doesn't do much for pain. (Just ask my ghallbladder)

I would say this is good advice, because it is, buuuuuuut realistically if you're taking it sublingually (under your tongue as it is intended) you'll end up needing to take between 1-2mg of suboxone. Start low and work your way up. As it take a while (45min or so to begin feeling effect) for the suboxone to kick in, don't rush anything, but also don't feel like something is wrong if you need to take more than 0.5 or 1mg.

If you're snorting your subs you absolutely want to start at 0.5 mg or so and wait a good hour before doing any more. That would suck so much to take too much and get all sick and nauseous when you're in the position of having to care for others.

Like others said, it will work but don't plan on using more than a few times. Not only will your tolerance sky rocket and other pain meds not being effective, you'll obtain little to no pain relief.

You should definitely see a PM doctor and get help.

I actually agree with you Tricomb to an extent. The key with methadone is to keep the dosages low, because you don't want to increase your tolerance. But for someone with a relatively low tolerance, 10mg would work great as its strong and long lasting, and chronic use want lead to a blocking effect.

Yeah, I mean I understand why people find flaws in requiring doses like 100mg/day for pain releif, but in my experience for pain I would take 5mg every few hours, and usually wouldn't go over 20-30mg/day.

Hmm..I shall look more into methadone for pain. What doctor should I talk to about that? A pain management doc, rheumatologist, or my primary doc?
So, I took my last 25mgs of oxycodone at 330ish...I should be safe to take sub tomorrow around 1030? In the morning that is.
