Hi all, I have an assessment for adult ADHD with a consultant psychiatrist on monday that I'm fairly sure will result in a positive diagnosis (I have already been diagnosed by an educational psychologist in the past). The medicine that I will llikely be put on if diagnosed is lisdexamfetamine, which I had never heard of before. As such I've done a bit of reading around it and and got a vague idea of what to expect, would be great to hear from anyone who has been prescribed the drug though.

Guess I'm just interested to know if people found it effective, whether they had problems with varying onset durations and inconsistent efficacy, did it interrupt sleeping, how was your appetite etc etc.

Anyone with experiences would be very welcome, reasonably limited information out there about this drug.

@CFC might be helpful here.

Some people like adderall better, some prefer vyvanse. Vyvanse is a pro drug that converts into dextro, where as adderall is 75% dextro 25% levo.

I only take them both recreationally. My therapist thinks i may have ADHD, but apparently substance abuse disorder trumps that.

Vyvanse, for me, seems cleaner and longer lasting. Less jittery than adderall. They both supress appetite, and especially vyvanse you'll not want to dose after, say, noon. Preferably much earlier IME.

There's quite a bit of info and examples of personal experiences of vyvanse in the vyvanse megathread.... let me see if I can find it for you...

Here you go mate:

If you can keep to not abusing, it works smoothly for the whole day. If you can't, then it usually lasts a few hours, then a sort of protracted crash for a few hours. Stay on your therapeutic dose, then it will likely work a lot btter.

Was on it before. I should have kept to a lower dose.

Spot on, thankyou. Dunno how I missed that.

I'm absolutely not planning on abusing it, whether it works out that way or not is a different matter but I hope not.

That sounds good. If you have past use at higher levels, then that can make it harder to stay at the prescribed dose. Playing around on the side with stimulants is also a hazard, which I'm pretty sure you know, just wanted to state.

Again, if I'd have stayed at 50 (about 20 in adderall), and too breaks, it would still be a stage one to stage two effect.

It really doesn't feel that bad, in my experience, to take breaks. You get a relief, a relaxing feeling which, though it might not compare to taking the stuff, provides happiness in its own right in the immediate, and promises a more effective medication after the break. I think that the literature even states that short break are ideal, but I might be wrong. What I do know is that the substance can be taxing on the brain if taken several months without any sort of break.

Also, it works for most of ADHD, but some ~20% of symptoms tend to remain, and respond to behavioral coaching.

So yeah I was scripted for 30mg lisdexamphetamine daily as a starting dose, report back in a couple of days to see how I'm doing and whether the dose needs to be upped.

My diagnostic score was really high, I came in the moderate to severe bracket and he pointed to the area above my score and said it was usually associated with head injuries  .

Really hoping this can have a positive effect in my life.

I'm only on 30mg a day and the sensation of physical stimulation is unpleasant to me. My first dose also kept me awake all through the night last night even though I took it at 9am.

Not the most promising of starts. My mind is definitely more at rest but I havent been productive at all.

I dont want to sound cynical, but you said in another thread that you paid nearly a grand for a consultation, then more ridiculous amounts for your script. A private doctor isn't going to under dose you when he's making money off it is he? Sounds to me like your dose is too high...

Sounds both cynical and poorly thought through if I'm honest.

The dosage the doctor prescribes makes no difference to the amount of money they make, it's not him selling the medicine is it. Whether he prescribes me 1mg or 1000mg he earns the same fee. He has been a consultant psychiatrist for 30 years including 23 years in the NHS (seven of those as a Director) and is pretty much the UKs leading expert on adult ADHD, hes not a fucking cowboy looking to dose me up to make a few quid. Theres a reason he was as expensive as he was, I paid for the opinion of someone that could be trusted to have my best interests at heart rather than someone who might cut corners.

That said, it is of course possible my dose is too high. That would be something of an anomaly though because the majority of people have to go up in dosage from there and I had a very high score on the index and at 14st I am a fairly big boy too.

Call me cynical too, but wouldn't he have the skill not to give you something that interrupts your sleep so drastically? Seems legit to try a small ir dose before to see how far it goes. But I'm not a doctor. This is just from my experience/reading.

Yeh, we've seen yer cock pics - no wonder you got such a large dose... ;)

Sometimes things really are as simple as they seem....

I feel a bit better today, still not settled in but it's better.

Hopefully will sleep better tonight. Other than that I would say the worst side effect is that the combination of dexamphetamine and exogenous testosterone is making me unbearably horny. Like way too much it's super annoying.
