people who take their job too seriously

my temp license is made out of paper. it looks like a business card that i printed myself. which is fine and dandy in seattle cause people are used to it. but not so much in OH.

anyhow, a bunch of us were at the store buying liquor and beer. i gave the cashier my ID and she had to call the manager and it was this big to do. she looked it up in the book and refused to believe it was a temp ID and thought it was fake. so, she wouldn't sell me the liquor but james ended up getting it.

next came my friend with a CA license, the manager looked it up in the book and spent a good 5 minutes staring at it. after that came two people with NC licenses. while she was looking up their licenses in the book, she went on this long tirade about how people need to get OH licenses and how she is not amused by our elaborate scam to buy alcohol.

literally 25 minutes later, we left we our beer and liquor.

i understand checking licenses and such. places can get in trouble for selling to underaged people. but this woman was damned determined that all 5 of us were trying to scam her.

so see vgoraz, people don't like paper licenses :p

after i left college i still had an ohio ID and had to go through the same thing every time i bought booze in PA.

here though they have a silly affadavit card they make you sign that basically says 'i swear i'm not lying.'

Ahhh, but you need to sympathise. Getting popped for selling to an underaged person is not too good oan resume, you think? I agree that those in retail assume the cost of keeping their job in that they need to be a People Person, but as one who breifly assumed that role (my first 3 months in the USi worked in a Walgreens in Delray Beach, Fl), I can realte to her nastiness. At least you got it though, right?

Yeah well your real license has come in so you will get it once you retain here. Pretty funny though what happened.

After I got married a similar thing happened, I had a temp license with my new name while the new one was being printed and mailed to me. I went to a liquor store to buy something and the clerk refused to sell to me saying that I could have forged this and he just couldn't take it. It's a legal document for christ sake. I argued with him for a few minutes and was irate to say the least.

So fucking annoying!!
