People in recovery, what are you doing to spend time?

I don't mind doing things alone though and like today I just brought an allday bus pass and got on/off at various places walking around different parts of town whilst listening to music

I like this (without the chemist shopping ;)) Before I even got into drugs I'd do the same thing, ride the trains down different lines I didn't know taking pictures of graffiti.

I also love nature/plants/gardening, I love working on my small garden, walking in the botanical gardens, or looking at a map, choosing a green patch I haven't seen before, then exploring it and going for a walk there. I love visiting the forest, I get a certain sort of peace there I can't find anywhere else.

Read, exercise, play sports.

All things i never used to like doing but I have found myself enjoying. Try em, it gives you some arbitrary goals to work towards when you probably have none (example: i would LOVE to be able to dunk on a 10 footer by the end of the summer, I am going to try and work hard and do it).

exercise. I know its just chasing another high, but the natural high of working my body hard feels and IS good for me.

So true. I longboard long distances everyday- if I don't I feel lifeless and depressed. It's amazing how much better you feel after you sweat from exercise. Also yoga. Yoga is key. I've been doing a lot of volunteer work putting on shows in my town. Work is important, family, NA meetings, and good sober friends. Watching movies, Battlestar and The Wire. Writing and drawing for my creative outlet. Staying busy and getting out there in the world sober. It takes time..but each day gets better. Just try not to get stuck inside, by yourself.

Meetings are good but can sometimes suck, if that's all your doing. The best thing to do is get a job. It will keep you busy for at least 8 hours. Combine that with meetings and that practically takes up your whole day.
